ABS or CBS?

Light motorcycles of driving license class A1 between 50 and 125 cubic centimeters may alternatively be equipped with a combination brake (CBS) instead of the ABS. Have to “at least two brakes, which act on different wheels, are activated by means of a single control device”, as stated in the legal text.

A special type of distribution is not prescribed. However, this does not prevent the wheels from locking in the event of a panic braking. Piaggio, for example, often only installs a single-channel ABS on the front wheel; a solution that significantly reduces the risk of falling during a panic braking and is therefore clearly preferable.

Driving school and the A1 driving license

First of all, the right planning can save a lot of time! This is because the theoretical driving test can be taken three months before your 16th birthday. So you should start choosing the right driving school in good time.

The prices for the A1 driving license can vary widely.

The prices for the A1 driving license vary greatly between different driving schools, in the city and in the country. Opinions from acquaintances and friends and a cost comparison help here. 1,300 euros to 2,000 euros must be taken into account in the normal case. There are also significant differences when it comes to driving instructors, and a green branch between the learner driver and the instructor is extremely important. It is not uncommon for motorcycle girls in particular to make stupid sayings and incomprehension on the part of the driving school owners. You don’t have to put up with that and don’t have to be!

Two years after acquiring the A1 driver’s license there is the opportunity to tackle the A2 driver’s license. A prerequisite for this is a minimum age of 18 years. With the A2 driving license, motorcycles up to 48 HP can be driven. A1 driving license holders only have to pass the practical test to acquire the A2 driving license. A theoretical examination is not required. Normally, however, you have to add practice hours to get used to the stronger bikes. In addition, the driving instructor must also form an opinion about the skills of the A2 candidate. In addition, there are additional costs for the driving school registration, the presentation for the practical test, the TuV fee for the practical test and the fee for the issuance of the driver’s license.

Tips for Buying a 125cc Motorcycle

There are numerous models to choose from in all price categories (125 cm³, 11 kW and a maximum of 0.1 kW / kg). In the model overview above in this article, only new 125cc models of the 2018 model year are listed, which are correspondingly expensive.

But of course there is another way. There are lots of older models on the used market exchanges that can be purchased for significantly less money.

For many novice drivers, a used stove is often just as suitable if the most important points are taken into account when buying, and the age of the motorcycle and the price are not in a confused relationship.

Don’t skimp on protective clothing!

When it comes to style, there are in principle almost no limits, but the prices for solid and good clothing are rarely less than 800 euros; High-end leather suits and carbon frills are included “Income = pocket money” not necessarily on the wish list.

A nice middle-class helmet, preferably waterproof textile clothing, safe boots and gloves as well as protectors are good in the shopping cart and should definitely be tried on in the shop. If you already have the things at the beginning of your driving school time, it makes sense to use your own equipment for the driving lessons.

Insurance for a 125 cc motorcycle

Before you can drive your own motorcycle on the road, you need at least liability insurance. Again, as is so often the case: Compare prices in advance. However, both when inquiring about well-known insurance companies and when making comparisons online, you always come across the same fact: The costs are immensely high for underage novice drivers!

For this reason, many novice drivers initially have their parents insured for their bikes. In this case, the novice driver registers himself as the driver. This usually means that you can get away much cheaper. Accordingly, the cost of insurance can vary widely. Anything is possible between 100 euros and 800 euros a year.

Registration of a motorcycle with 125 cm³

The next step would now be the registration of the motorcycle. You must already have your driver’s license in order to be registered. At least that is the common practice. In order to enable the earliest possible road start in an emergency, the theory test must be passed in advance, if possible.

The practical test can be completed at the earliest four weeks before the 16th birthday. However, the driver’s license is only issued on the birthday. Only then is it worth going to the admissions office.

It is important that the insurance contract is already in your pocket and that you have all the necessary papers and documents. Again, proper preparation is everything. On the homepage of the responsible approval office, you can see which documents must be included and which are available for download in advance. A quick call can also be worthwhile, as the requirements can vary greatly from city to city.
