alpha Racing uses a valve control with variable stroke, duration and timing to get 146 hp out of a BMW boxer – Euro4-compliant and approvable.

Uwe Eisenbeis, engineer at alpha Racing, tries to downplay the matter: “We only touch the valve control! Basic engine, airbox, inlet and outlet ducts – all series. Sure, we have to completely re-tune the electronics. But this way we get more horsepower, less consumption and a Euro4 homologation!”

There is definitely more than a little backyard tuning in there, but a lot of know-how. We are excited to see how many of these engines will be released into the wild. Or maybe even on racetracks …
