This future is that of the famous manga AKIRA. If the future described in this animated film is not encouraging, we can discover a device that has appealed to many bikers. A motorcycle, sure, but not just any. That of Kaneda, one of the main characters of the story, leader of a gang of thugs, reckless biker, angry and in love with his machine.
Both the manufacturer and the model name were never mentioned. But its specificities have something to mark the spirits. Under its aspect of ultra-futuristic sportswoman, the machine is scary. 2-wheel drive, double ceramic rotor, a power of 200 hp announced (the debate is not closed on the power – some sources announce only 100 hp, which would be surprising for a machine from 2019), ABS controlled by electronic management, CD player, on-board computer, navigation system, and the most interesting is yet to come.
To get into it, you have to raise the cockpit and then settle into the leather chair. Sitting with his feet forward in a senator’s position, nothing seems to invite sporty driving, especially as the machine has an incredible 2194mm wheelbase, worse than a chopper. However, on the handlebars of this 3 m long bike, Kaneda commands respect and his machine seems exceptionally fast. It is certainly the best motorcycle of the time.
The enormous rear single-sided arm is just a cover that houses a support beam, a huge rear disc and the transmission system. The front end is made up of 4 Ohlins shock absorbers supporting huge wheel attachments. Braking, entrusted to Brembo, is provided by 4-piston calipers the size of a Michael Jordan shoe. The dry weight of 154 kg seems very respectable given the size of the machine.
As for the mechanics … Aside from the fact that this is a double ceramic rotor model, and a strong assumption of a magnetic motor assembly housed in the wheels, not much is known. Maybe the film scheduled for a while will tell us more.
Sitting 34 cm from the ground, the pilot can enjoy extraordinary protection, the cockpit and the huge bubble forming an imposing shell. Very appreciable elements in the world of Tetsuo and Kaneda, where violence is part of everyday life, and in which a powerful and imposing device ensures a certain respectability in the clans.
