All the Duels - Face to face Dorsoduro - Hypermotard: two very shameless Italians! - SM ascending roadsters

The sun is back and the conditions are right again to (re) indulge yourself on a motorcycle! What if we saw what it looks like on two big Italian supermotards with a strong character, the Aprilia Dorsoduro and the Ducati Hypermotard? ? Face to face !

SM ascendant roadsters

Unlike the original supermotards (SM for regulars of the genre!), Derived from off-road machines (cross and enduro), our two competitors of the day share the same road origins: by scratching a little, we quickly discover the discomfort of roadsters, or even sports cars !

Unveiled in 2008, the Aprilia Dorsoduro is a slightly more scoundrel variation of the 750 Shiver (read our), the sympathetic Aprilia roadster whose first version appeared in May 2007 was not without reproach. The erratic operation of its electronic accelerator Ride by Wire had even taken it upon himself to seal the commercial beginnings of the Shiver …

Fortunately, Aprilia quickly revised its copy to finally offer – a few months later – a friendly motorcycle, endearing and with a strong character..

For its part, the Ducati Hypermotard 1100 is a tasty mix of Multistrada and Monster. Even if it inaugurated in 2007 a new genre from the Italian manufacturer, it recovers all the technical specificities dear to the brand: the famous tubular steel trellis frame, the desmo twin-cylinder with two valves per cylinder and air-oil cooling and, of course. , a design to die for !

Because make no mistake: our Latin neighbors are definitely the kings of style! Perched on its small 17-inch wheels, the Aprilia takes the design of supermotards with a saddle as thin as it is high and a wide handlebar equipped with hand guards. This red and matt black color makes the frame / engine assembly stand out particularly well and especially the double exhaust outlet under the saddle..

The very daring look of this element – between fighter jet nozzles and shark gills – does not go unnoticed: everyone is free to form an opinion, but the result is explosive! Too bad the Dorsoduro is disappointing with certain somewhat cheap finishing details, such as the stickers that come off on an almost new model or the ignition key that remains in our hands when opening – without forcing! – the fuel tank …

By his side, the Hypermotard also plays the design card to the full! As is often the case with the Bologna manufacturer, the pencil stroke is daring – although a little less … hum … "surprising" than on the Multistrada designed by Pierre Terblanche in 2001! – and unmistakably successful.

If the Ducati refers directly to the supermoto genre, it is with a style of its own and above all an incredible compactness for a 1100 cc motorcycle! The little present fairing gives pride of place to the elements of the engine and the cycle part, such as the magnificent single-sided arm.

The pearly white color with red frame of our test model is particularly flattering, cleverly combining class and sportiness. There are also hand guards incorporating LED indicators, extended at each end by the mirrors. It is very "stylish" and neat, but as we will see, not necessarily practical, especially in town…
