All the Duels - Face to face Honda 600 Silverwing - Suzuki Burgman 650: maximum pleasure among maxiscooters? - City or Grand Tourism? Utility Vs limousine ...

In the shadow of the 500 Tmax, the Suzuki Burgman 650 and the Honda 600 Silver Wing are attracting more and more bikers, including – above all? – in winter. What are the reasons for this success ? Comparative test of two competitors with very different qualities.

City or Grand Tourism? Utility Vs Limousine…

By observing them well and before even driving, we can already guess the orientations of our two scooters: ultimately quite narrow for a machine of this size, the Silverwing favors ease and finesse to squeeze through traffic jams. With its mirrors anchored on the handlebars and its reasonable apron, the Honda is only 77 cm wide.

The Burgman invites a lot more to travel with its look of (small) Honda Gold Wing! Everything is bulkier on board: its windshield (electrically adjustable) is higher and wider and its apron is much more plump. Thus, the Suzuki suffers from a width of 81 cm which even goes to 95 cm at the level of the mirrors! To make matters worse, they are placed exactly at the height of those of the cars…

Suddenly, we make extensive use of the control which allows them to be electrically folded down, which unfortunately means driving without a rear view in situations where we desperately need it….

In terms of equipment, our two competitors are not in the same category either. It must also be recognized that more than 2,500 € separate the Honda from the Suzuki! The Silverwing is satisfied with the minimum union, which will not shock motorcyclists but will somewhat disappoint scooter riders: no on-board computer or even opening the saddle box to the contactor, we will just find a 12-volt outlet..

The Burgman Executive Winter Pack edition of our test, whose list of options would make many GT motorcycles pale, therefore takes a good lead in the equipment department: electric windshield and retro, heated saddles and grips, passenger backrest, 2 12 v outlets … All he needs is air conditioning and music! The left commodo is also very impressive by the number of buttons it offers !

Fortunately, the ergonomics are well thought out and you quickly get used to managing with your thumb all the transmission options (Eco, Power and Sequential modes) as well as the turn signals, electric mirrors, headlights, etc. Only the horn is a bit hard to find in emergency situations, at least at first.

Without offering an on-board computer, the Burgman still provides information on average consumption and the outside temperature. On the other hand, the somewhat dated look of the dashboard is reminiscent of those of cars of the 80s. That of the Silverwing is less complete, but much more elegant. And in strong light, both lack clarity to be perfectly readable.
