All the Duels - Honda VFR 1200 DCT Vs BMW K1300S: supremacy called into question ... - Elite rates ...

Considered as the benchmark for Sport-GTs, the Honda VFR is adorned with a new 1237 cc V4 and above all a double-clutch transmission (DCT) to keep its crown. Will this innovation suffice against a fully mature BMW K1300S? ? Duel.

At the time of the assessment, the observation is clear: even if the K1300S requires typing in the catalog of BMW options to afford all the benefits of its electronic accessories, the German definitely appears more versatile, more efficient, more sporty and frankly, more enjoyable than the VFR 1200 DCT.

Despite all the benefits of the Honda’s dual-clutch system, the sixth generation VFR suffers from a positioning problem: too heavy and lacking in precision on the attack, it seems to have sacrificed its legendary "Sport-GT" balance to the benefit of a behavior that is certainly more comfortable and adapted to the long haul, but which is not enough either to make it a GT without fear and without reproach…

The great novelty 2010 Honda had already struggled to convince us in terms of strictly road skills during its duel with the Kawasaki 1400 GTR, better equipped and more practical (read). And this astonishing observation – the VFR were not used to losing their duels! – is the same for its sporting connections against the very sharp BMW K1300S.

Clearly oriented towards a muscular multi-purpose – just by its ultra-present engine! -, the German manages to preserve the amateurs of long drives thanks to a correct position and a protection – inferior all the same to those of the Honda, in particular at the level of the legs -, to reassuring piloting aids (traction control, indicator of tire pressure, etc.) and to its formidable damping management device (ESA II) which allows it to claim the rigor of a big sports car by approaching the comfort of a road.

Still, it takes 16,540 euros to leave with a K1300S in its original juice (16,290 euros for the VFR 1200 DCT), to which are added the 3,075 euros – including 1200 euros of silencer! – requested by the German brand on this "Full equipped" model. Prices still too elitist for this type of motorcycle, which means that French bikers often prefer to turn either to sports cars or to pure and hard road…
