Following the disastrous sales figures of a month of April completely confined due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Site questioned the president of the two-wheel sector of the National Council of Automobile Professions (CNPA)… Interview with Nadine Annelot.

The month of April 2020 will be remembered for the unprecedented and total confinement that the French had to respect in the face of Covid-19. It also goes down in Site annals as the worst month on record in addition to …

Anecdotal sales, catastrophic results: the figures for the motorcycle and scooter market are apocalyptic (see the following pages) and are only a distant memory: over the four months, sales of 125 cc plunge by -43.4% , three-wheelers by -38.8% and large cubes by -31.5% !

Behind these appalling statistics hides a much more dramatic reality: concessions – and their bosses – are sometimes in critical situations while mechanics and salespeople are almost all on short-time work … And the rest of the year promises to be complicated because the coronavirus is far from being eradicated.

One month after having interviewed the representative of motorcycle manufacturers in France (), Site turns today to the president of the 2-wheeler sector of the CNPA.

According to Nadine Annelot – whose son Remy runs the Grenoble family dealership Motolabo (Suzuki, Triumph, Aprilia, Moto Guzzi and Moto Axxe) – professionals worry about their future and "suffer from this situation like many traders".

Authorized to remain open during confinement in order to ensure the maintenance of motorcycles and scooters necessary for the movements of the "first of roped chore ", dealers and repairers face serious cash flow concerns.

For Ms. Annelot, "it is not only France (via emergency measures taken by the government, Editor’s note) that will have to support us but also the bankers …", not to mention the insurers and the builders !

Following the deconfinement of May 11, business should resume in the concessions. But under what conditions and at what pace? The president of the two-wheeled CNPA "hopes that our authorities will finally understand that the motorcycle is", which would allow a better restart.

Finally, for accessories manufacturers, the recovery could be slower because "as in ready-to-wear, we fear that customers are afraid to try on helmets and clothing"…
