The fact is: Germany’s motorcyclists don’t like gloves. But why? Are good motorcycle gloves just too expensive? A look at the online shops and catalogs shows you better: almost everyone has an all-rounder in their range that can be used universally with a weatherproof climate membrane and costs less than 50 euros. The question that remains for our test is: are such motorcycle gloves good for anything?

All in all, the really well-made motorcycle gloves in this price league are in the minority. Only one of eleven pairs of gloves got the top grade “very good”, four others still got a “good”, but all with restrictions. We mercilessly pull out the red card for the rest of the field.

This is how MOTORRAD tests

Before the first test drive, the telephone wire was glowing: Who has which gloves in their range for a maximum of 50 euros? Eleven providers were ultimately able to deliver and sent the classic entry-level all-rounder in various sizes to the editorial office.

After viewing the goods, we went on an extensive test lap with two bikes from the MOTORRAD long-term test fleet (KTM 1190 Super Duke, Honda Africa Twin) in the best spring weather. Accelerate, couple, brake – which motorcycle glove gives you the best feeling of contact with the base?

All-round motorcycle gloves up to 50 euros in the product test

Ari van der Ems

In part two, a second pair is filled. Only three models did not leak a droplet.

During the subsequent dry run, the testers then assessed the fit in the various sizes and assessed the anti-slip protection.

In order to test the guaranteed rain suitability, two couples, who had already been registered in the test drives, were confronted with plenty of water (see photos): once in the immersion bath, once through a filling test, through which leaks in the climate membrane become visible.

MOTORCYCLE

Just two of the eleven suppliers manage to supply us with really tight motorcycle gloves. The best job was done at Louis. Deserved test victory for the Probiker PR-14!

Is it worth choosing an inexpensive all-rounder? When looking at the final tabs, disillusionment sets in. Not every motorcycle glove in the entry-level league can do everything really well. Either a spongy feel or inadequacies in carrying comfort interfere. The poorly fixed food is particularly annoying for many test subjects. Once undressed, the inner workings have already twisted.

When you put it on for the second time, you just want to fire the things into the corner in exasperation. Then there is the disastrous result of the wetness test. Just two of the eleven suppliers manage to supply us with really tight motorcycle gloves. The best job was done at Louis. Deserved test victory for the Probiker PR-14!
