Aprilia RS 125 test
Great in shape

Breathtaking look, strong appearance. With the new Aprilia RS 125 you are not just king in the schoolyard. Design and technical ingredients identify them as real racers.

Andreas Bildl

The front wheel of the GSX-R 1000 squeaks briefly, the driver tears the visor open: »Isch des a 600er? What, a 125? Thunderstorm, razor sharp. ”The Suzuki-
The pilot is flabbergasted, whistles appreciatively between his teeth, steps into first gear and rushes out of the pit lane.
The new Aprilia RS 125 makes an impression. Even under big bikes in Hockenheim. After the small two-stroke rocket had been in the shop windows almost unchanged for six years, Aprilia you tailored an exciting new dress on the pretty aluminum frame. The once somewhat rounded, small two-stroke saw is unrecognizable. That
The angular design, with its cheeky, aggressive look from the double headlights, is based directly on the large RSV 1000.
The sleek rear, the filigree cast wheels, that pleases. Even seasoned editors and self-confessed performance fetishists were spotted in the editorial underground car park, curiously sneaking around little Aprilia. No wonder: aluminum banana swing arm with mounting rollers for assembly stands, exhaust cover made of brushed aluminum, plus a superbike-style cockpit, it’s made quite tasty. In addition, the little shows off
Aprilia with a trendy radial brake caliper on the front wheel. Otherwise the chassis and engine remained unchanged.
That means, unthrottled, 29 two-stroke horses tug on the chain. As with the
15 HP version, however, you can safely shelve the first half of the rev range
lay. It should be at least 5000 rpm to start off. From this mark on, the diaphragm-controlled two-stroke engine pulls in cleanly. 8000 rpm are always enough to quickly swim with everyday traffic. You practically do not feel the dent in the performance curve. Above that, the eighth-liter really goes to extremes and turns snotty up to the performance peak at 10500 rpm.
This is also the perfect gearshift speed for rapid progress. Then the connections in the exact six-speed gearbox fit perfectly. In Hockenheim, at the end of the Parabolica with the driver folded up at the braking point in front of the hairpin, the speedometer shows 158 km / h fully pressed.
Downsizing is not a problem on the Aprilia, even for drivers with a guard, because they ?? although much more delicate than its predecessor? leaves enough space for the pilot. The arrangement of pegs, handlebars and bench fits. So you can fully concentrate on throwing the anchor. The four-piston caliper, which is equipped with pistons of different sizes, together with the 320-millimeter brake disc, has little trouble catching the Aprilia again. The comfortably tuned fork dips relatively quickly, but at least on the day of the ride, with its frosty six degrees, it had sufficient cushioning ready. The shock absorber, on the other hand, is quite tight in the rebound stage.
Knock down four gears, bend down to the knee? and get back on the straight with momentum. The chassis plays along perfectly. It whizzes pleasantly light-footed RS 125 through the curves.
So it’s all sunshine. At least almost. The imprecisely manufactured, sloping driver pegs do not fit into the noble appearance. And adjustable clutch and brake levers would be given the ?? unchanged ?? At a price of 4999 euros, this is no exaggerated luxury.
But that’s it. Otherwise, the Aprilia driver can talk about the fine
The finish, sensible details and the awesome look are delightful.
