Aprilia has to replace the motor on around 700 RS 660 and Tuono 660 machines worldwide. The installed connecting rods do not meet the specification.

A batch of poorly tempered connecting rods compels Aprilia to a worldwide recall campaign for the RS 660 and the Tuono 660. Connecting rods that are not manufactured to factory specifications by a supplier can damage the engine.

A case has been documented by the US traffic safety authority NHTSA since the end of May 2021 in which a connecting rod on an Aprilia RS 660 was torn off after a mileage of around 2,300 kilometers.

Preventive engine replacement

Aprilia has now decided not only to replace the connecting rods concerned, the Italians want to replace the entire engine on the machines affected by the recall as a precaution. This should make the customer feel completely safe. At the same time, Aprilia is renewing the factory warranty for all affected machines. It starts again after the engine has been replaced.

Around 700 machines worldwide are affected by this recall. Aprilia names 110 affected machines for the German market. All owners of affected motorcycles will be contacted by Aprilia. Vehicles that are not yet in customer hands are converted accordingly before delivery.

A small carelessness on the part of a supplier has far-reaching consequences for a manufacturer. Because connecting rods were inadequately remunerated, Aprilia replaced the entire engine as a precaution. Fine move.
