Premiere Aprilia Tuono V4 R

Aprilia’s power naked bike

Content of

Accompanied by mighty thunderstorms, the new Aprilia Tuono V4 R rolls into the arena. Tuono means thunder in German, more than ever before the name of the sporty naked bike is program.

A wild beast that eats up the street." Aprilia uses these sensational words to describe his latest naked bike. For once, no marketing blah, but an appropriate characterization. Where the hot-blooded Italian grabs no grass grows, sorry, there is no more asphalt.

167 hp fuel the superbike RSV4 R, which has been deprived of its full fairing and is equipped with high handlebars, which in this constellation bears the name Tuono V4 R. If the pilot drives all the stallions together, he intuitively clings to the wide handlebar so that the wild animal does not throw him off – the start is brutal. But despite its breathtaking dynamism, the Tuono always remains predictable and delivers exactly the power that the driver demands. As with the Superbike, he is supported by three different mappings, which he can freely select at the push of a button while driving.

I.The naked woman owes her sprint speed, among other things, to the superbike unit’s transmission, which has a shorter ratio in the first three gears. Even tamer control times, intake trumpets that are 20 millimeters longer, maximum power 1000 rpm earlier and an increased flywheel mass of the crank drive all contribute to the typical naked bike characteristics. What is to be criticized: Especially when the engine is hot, the V4 sometimes takes a little longer to start, and starting from a standstill makes a noticeable torque weakness up to around 2500 rpm more difficult.

For a surcharge (1200 euros) Aprilia also supplies the APRC package for the Tuono with an automatic gearshift, the launch control acceleration aid, traction control and wheelie control. A worthwhile investment, because the Italian has remained a radical bike in spite of all the taming efforts. Aprilia moved the steering head forward by ten millimeters, flattened the steering head angle (by 0.5 to 65 degrees), lengthened the wheelbase by 25 millimeters, screwed the motor five millimeters deeper into the frame and also lowered the pivot point by five millimeters. All of these measures are intended to take account of the increased center of gravity due to the higher and upright seating position and the changed wheel load distribution. Nevertheless, the Tuono quickly lifts the front wheel when shooting, or the front end swings in higher gears when accelerating strongly, despite the steering damper. And when you anchor firmly, she prances restlessly with her stern – not for those who enjoy a leisurely driving style!

A top feature is the ATC traction control. Newly tuned, it regulates extremely gently and very effectively prevents an abrupt and strong rear wheel breaking out. For the hunt on dry country roads, we recommend the fifth of eight levels as a basis, professionals and other brave warriors feel their way to levels four and three. A lot of fun, especially on roads with little grip, with the rear wheel spinning in a controlled manner out of the corners! But be careful: if you turn the clutch lever down, which is uncomfortable to use because it is mounted very high up, you may touch the adjustment button of the traction control that allows more slip when the clutch is pulled. In extreme cases, the ATC can even be switched off.

Aprilia Tuono V4 R Wheelie.

A real highlight of the Aprilia Tuono is its incredible cornering behavior. It sticks into corners super easy and precisely, stays stable on course and gives the pilot the feeling of absolute control at all times thanks to the sporty, tightly coordinated spring elements. It is only on nasty patchwork of asphalt that hits penetrate the driver with insufficient filtering.

PS judgment:

The Tuono V4 R is a radical bike, every square centimeter is pure sport. The Italian’s dynamic riding behavior requires experienced pilots; there are more suitable bikes for beginners. Fans of unstable driving conditions will find a first-class playmate in the Tuono. When it comes to the recommendable APRC electronics package, Aprilia has a hefty price tag of 1200 euros.
