With the S 1000 RR, BMW has broken all its fetters in terms of customer expectations and tradition. Now the show obviously continues with the very own BMW attribute: the boxer.

The first photos of the BMW Lo Rider Concept appeared in 2008 and prompted heated discussions and enthusiastic comments from retro fans. In particular, the versatility of the study through various accessories would allow each customer to put together their very own Lo Rider.
Now a Erlkonig has come before our lens, which shows that BMW could have gone a long way in this direction. Although the low-profile motorcycle looks very conservative in its test outfit, it can still be seen that it has something on the box. First of all, the fat upside-down fork catches the eye. In addition, there is a radially mounted double disc brake at the front, which also looks very sporty. Paired with the 110 hp, air-cooled double-cam boxer, like the one on the current R 1200 R, from which this Erlkonig differs significantly, the result is a thoroughly sporty mix. The scoop over the tank also suggests the Lo-Rider idea. It looks light. So maybe even easily interchangeable? Compared to a Erlkonig with a similar orientation that was discovered in the spring, but which, according to the photographer, had a lot more bass and a different exhaust, BMW could either continue to be ready for series production or even offer various exhaust models, which in turn for the Lo-Rider idea speak. Only the strange strut to support the rear with the small seat roll does not fit into the picture. But if you just left them out, the picture would be perfect again.
The men at BMW experts Wunderlich were inspired by the Lo Rider and built one out of one
HP 2 sports a similar motorcycle. However, the street legal version is due to the donor
HP 2 significantly higher and, because of the complex boxer technology, also certainly considerably more expensive (approx. 35,000 euros). But that such a motorcycle can be a lot of fun and even drives really sporty, PS was able to experience at TunerGP with the racing version of the SpeedCruiser. Test on p. 36.

Kawasaki ZX-6R. When the concentrated super sports power came exclusively from Japan, it was building Kawasaki for country road sweeps and all those for whom torque was beyond racing regulations, the ZX-6R with 636 cm3. For racing drivers who wanted to compete in the 600 series for Kawasaki, there was the ZX-6RR with the official 599 cm3. Then, for whatever reason, Kawasaki became too big an effort to offer two models in the same class, and the ZX-6R was 599 cc for all Kawa fans from 2007 onwards. With the result that the green supersport file almost completely disappeared from the everyday scene. What began so successfully with the GPZ 600 R in the late 1980s,
came to an abrupt end.
The existence of the six could not be justified with the number of units for the racetrack. And that’s why the 636 will be back in 2013. It is intended to attract customers who otherwise tend to look at the Daytona 675 from Triumph, the new MV Agusta F3 or the Suzuki GSX-R 750. This also underpins the engine concept of the new Ninja 636. It had its predecessor with the same displacement compared to the “pure” 600 is the larger bore, the new one will have a stroke that is 2.6 millimeters longer. In addition to the higher output, this in turn speaks for more torque, especially in the mid-range engine speed that is relevant for everyday use. According to initial estimates, the torque peak is likely to be around 70 Nm (previously 65 Nm, PS measurement), and the maximum power can reach 130 PS.
The chassis will also be new. Like its big sister, the ZX-10R, the 636 has a Big Piston Fork, a fork in which the compression and rebound stages are each adjusted on a handlebar. To what extent the new fork will influence the geometry of the new athlete cannot yet be precisely determined. However, the frame looks taken from the current ZX-6R. Nevertheless, the new one should be a little lower at the front, as experience has shown that the fork tube length of the BP forks is a little longer. The steering head angle may change for more agile turning.
In all probability, the electronics package will also be taken over from the big sister. This would make the Kawasaki the first 600 series with traction control and ABS, if Honda’s CBR 600 RR does not arrive in 2013, where such systems are also to be expected.
So Kawasaki has another hot iron in the fire in the fight for the numerically smaller supersport fan base. In any case, the price will be important for the success of the new 636. It is obvious that the one with ABS and traction control is unlikely to correspond to the current ZX-6R price. The fun costs 11,995 euros at the moment, almost 1000 euros should probably be added. But let’s wait and see, it’s great that Kawasaki’s sub-superbikes are now worth a pretty new bike.

KTM Adventure

We were somewhat surprised by the news of the new Kawasaki Z 800. Only last year, the Japanese donated their mid-range Z 750 with the R version, a naked bike that had been technically and visually upgraded. Now for 2013 there is a completely new model with a, the new name promises, a larger displacement. At this point in time, Kawasaki does not want to comment at all what it will look like. Two possibilities would be conceivable: Either the existing 750cc four-cylinder, which has not been modified since 2007, would be drilled out accordingly, and Kawasaki would have a similar displacement in terms of displacement as the Yamaha FZ8 (779 cm3). Or they even combine the cylinder with the current 68.4 millimeter bore and the crankshaft of the Z 1000. It has a stroke of 56 millimeters. An increase of 5.1 millimeters. This would result in a displacement of 823 cm3. More stroke, as in the second scenario, means an increase in torque in the valuable middle range compared to more bore. If the large displacement of more than 800 cc would actually come and Kawasaki would try to keep the 800s at around 110 hp, the new four-cylinder could become a really powerful word in the middle class.
Visually, Kawasaki definitely flexes its muscles. On the new one
Z 800 hardly reminds of the 750 predecessor. The motorcycle looks extremely beefy, relies fully on street fighters and reminds us here and there of the Benelli TNT. The lightness of the Z 750, the styling of which many also found loveless, has given way to hoods that are formed around the tank and the larger radiator and thus give the Z 800 an extremely powerful appearance – at least on this first picture, which past Kawasaki appeared in Asia. Officially, only the driving image shown above exists.
Of course, there is no information from either about the price
Kawasaki. PS assumes that we will get to see the motorcycle at the Intermot in Cologne in October, but whether there will be a prize for Germany remains to be seen. The importer will certainly also make that dependent on how the customers and the press react to the final bike.

The time for the 990 twin in the big touring and adventure enduro from KTM is up. In order to be able to react appropriately to the horde of BMW GS or the Triumph Explorer, the Mattighofener based on the power twin from the Superbike RC8R put a powerful double igniter into a motorcycle that has been redesigned on all fronts. Allegedly, the new Adventure should produce 150 hp. So that nothing goes wrong, after all, it should also maintain its claim to leadership in the off-road sector, the KTM has complex electronics with ride-by-wire and ABS.

New Ducati Hypermotard
More power
Since the current large Hypermotard, the 1100 Evo, with the air-cooled two-valve twin only has a nominal output of 95 hp, a new, more powerful version of the Supermoto will appear in 2013. A look at the Erlkonig leads to the conclusion that Ducati uses the water-cooled four-valve Testastretta from the small super sports car 848 Evo, which has already been successfully transplanted into the small Streetfighter in a modified configuration. Something similar is likely to happen with the Twin in the upcoming Hypermotard. An increase in performance to 120 to 125 hp is possible. The frame with the diverging main struts is also new, as is the single rear silencer on the right, which replaces the previous underseat system.
