No question about the Honda Monkey Already has cult status not only among fans of the small bike. Those who want it a little more iconic recently had the opportunity to bid for a Honda Monkey Z50A, which was owned by John Lennon of the Beatles between 1969 and 1971. Lennon used the Monkey back then to stay on his estate “Boobshurst Park” Moving around Surrey.

Far exceeded expectations

In 1971 Lennon sold the Monkey to Henry Graham, who then sold the little Honda to John Harrington. The Honda Monkey Z50A was owned by Harrington for a remarkable 47 years. Since March 4th, the Monkey has found a new owner.

The auction took place in the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull (England). The Honda Monkey, once owned by John Lennon, was put up for auction to H&Passed H Classics. The experts at H&Before the auction, H Classics assumed that the Monkey would change hands for around £ 30,000. These expectations were exceeded by far. The Monkey ultimately changes hands for a total of £ 57,500. This meant that almost twice as much was taken as originally expected.

Indeed, the real Lennon Monkey?

Amazing: In 2015 the Lennon Monkey was offered in Germany for an astronomical 250,000 euros. Even more astonishing: in 2008 it was auctioned off by the Bonhams auction house for around £ 36,000. In pictures between the Bonhams-Lennon-Monkey and the one now by H&H offered clear differences recognizable.

Confronted with this by MOTORRAD, explained H&H, that the 2015 offer was just a test and that the Bonhams-Honda might be faked: “We think ours is the right one.” H&H indicates that this can also be proven by documents and frame numbers.

The monkey concept could be seen at EICMA 2017 in Milan.

If 57,500 pounds are too much for you, a Honda Monkey might be cheaper this year. At EICMA 2017, Honda presented a monkey concept that is very close to a production model. Much is not yet known about the concept.

The new Monkey, however, is likely to be a bit larger than the classic on which John Lennon once sat. At least that’s what the twelve-inch wheels on the concept bike suggest. The Monkey, which was presented at the fair in Milan, also has 125 cm³. Nobody can yet say for sure whether there will also be a variant with 50 cm³.

Other technical data, availability and prices have not yet been disclosed by Honda. Various Honda dealers are already offering the new Monkey on the popular used portals for pre-order for 4,100 euros. An official confirmation from Honda is not yet available. The production model of the new Monkey will definitely not cost 57,500 pounds.
