In 2017, Benelli tested the public’s interest in a Cafe Racer-style Leoncino 500 at the EICMA in Milan. The Leoncino 500 Sport has now been presented as a production model in China.

The Leoncino 500 has long been an integral part of the European Benelli model range. The naked bike is available as a Leoncino 500 and as a Leoncino 500 Trail in a scrambler look. In China, the “Sports” a third version presented.

The Europeans were able to take a first look at them at EICMA in 2017, but then the study disappeared again. Until now, because in China the Benelli parent company QJ Motor has presented the production version of the Sport.

Spoked wheels, lamp mask and stub

Technically, the Sport has nothing ahead of its sister models. It remains with the 48 hp and 46 Nm in-line two-cylinder, which accelerates the model weighing around 207 kilograms to up to 160 km / h. New add-on parts are responsible for the change to the Cafe Racer. On the Sport, the tubular handlebar gives way to stubs that are clamped directly to the fork tubes. On the exhaust side, a twin-pipe rear silencer replaces the standard muffler. Spoked rims for tubeless tires replace cast wheels. The 17-inch format and 120/70 and 160/60 tires remain. The sporty look is rounded off by a small lamp cover and a small saddlebag that hangs over the exhaust silencer next to the seat.

Benelli has not yet confirmed any import intentions. Due to the technical proximity to the existing Leoncino 500 models, however, it should only be a matter of time before Sport enriches the Italian model range in Europe.

Conclusion

With a few targeted modifications, Benelli converts the Leoncino 500 into a cafe racer. With the nickname “Sports” is now taking off in China. We believe that sport will soon reach our coasts too.
