Between 2001 and 2004, BMW had BMW R 1100 S prettied up against each other in the international Boxer Cup. It was driven among others in the context of MotoGP, Superbike World Championship and other racing series. The Boxer Cup will return in spring 2018 – however, modified BMW R nine T Racer machines will then be used.

All BMW R nine T Racers are technically identical.

The conversions that are identical to all BMW R nine T Racers include a fork conversion and shock absorber from Wilbers, cylinder head covers, engine spoiler and rear end from Ilmberger, sports silencers and titanium manifolds from Akrapovic, BMW motorcycle ABS with racing software, Brembo brake pads, a steering damper from Muller Prazision and Metzeler standard tires. The air / oil-cooled boxer engine with a displacement of 1,170 cc and an output of 110 hp remains unchanged. Tuning of any kind is not permitted. All technical components as well as wear parts are precisely specified and regulated. There is only room for individualization in terms of the visual design in the form of paintwork, foiling and stickers.

All Cup motorcycles are prepared for racing at the BMW Motorrad Munich branch. To do this, side stands, mirrors, license plate holders, indicators and lighting are removed. However, the BMW R nine T Racer is street legal again after the season and after being restored to its original condition.

Again with VIP drivers

The starting field for the BMW Motorrad Boxer Cup includes 30 places in the coming season. In addition to the regular starters, prominent guest starters will also take part in the races on two VIP machines. Drivers over the age of 18 who hold a national B license (or higher) or a comparable license from another FIM federation can apply to participate.

Another requirement is the purchase of one of the Boxer Cup special versions of the BMW R nineT Racers. When purchasing, participants can choose between four different service packages. The offer ranges from the basic package, with which only the BMW R nine T Racer can be purchased, to the VIP package with racing service, transport of the bike including storage and insurance, catering on the race weekend and other benefits. As an alternative to buying, BMW Motorrad also allows you to rent a racing motorcycle for the entire 2018 season.

Season with 6 runs
