BMW wants to be at the forefront of the Superbike World Championship in the 2019 season with the new BMW S 1000 RR, which will be presented at EICMA in Milan. To this end, Bayern have teamed up as a partner with the Shaun Muir Racing (SMR) team, which was still on the road with Aprilia in 2018.

Markus Reiterberger is the newly crowned European Superstock Champion.

In the factory-supported SMR team, ex-world champion Tom Sykes from Kawasaki and European Superstock champion Markus Reiterberger will grip the handlebars. The Englishman Sykes drove for nine years and 228 races for the Greens. In 2013 he became world champion with Kawasaki, in Qatar he will contest the last race for the Japanese. Reiterberger competed in the Superbike World Championship in 2016 and 2017.

Shaun Muir Racing (SMR) will take care of the entire logistics including hospitality and also provide a large part of the technical crew. BMW itself takes over the electronics division and builds the factory racing machines in its own racing department.
