The Bavarian Police are converting their company motorcycles to the latest generation of Boxers. The first BMW R 1250 RT models have now been put into service.

In future, the Bavarian police can rely on the latest generation of police motorcycles. The first five “uniformed” BMWs R 1250 RT have now been handed over to the Munich police headquarters, where the machines will also be used in the future.

At the handover, Bavaria’s Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann emphasized that the motorcycle groups in the other police headquarters will also be able to enjoy the new police motorcycles step by step. Seven more motorcycles have already been ordered. Because the security of the two-wheeled officers is the top priority, the police models are extensively equipped.

Extensive safety equipment

Among other things, the machines have DTC dynamic traction control, lean angle-dependent ABS Pro and Hill Start Control Pro. In addition, the new model was actively developed by police experts, according to Bavaria’s Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann. For example, there are additional flashing beacons in the rear, special reflective surfaces for better visibility and a radio antenna of the latest generation, which should ensure optimal communication.

According to Herrmann, police motorcycles are an important resource. The Bavarian Police have a total of 250 police motorcycles, 170 of which are uniformed. The spectrum of use ranges from traffic monitoring to the escort of state guests. In the EU-wide tender for a multi-year framework contract to supply the Bavarian police with uniformed motorcycles, BMW had already been awarded the contract in 2017.
