Letter salad! For a change, not GS at BMW and not RR either. The focus for 2020 is the big C, from cruiser to crossover. Even if the fat 1800s is still a long time coming.

An X in front of the R, that’s what it’s all about. The small and large XR, very close together in terms of displacement, worlds apart in terms of performance. In fact, there are just 104 cubic centimeters between the 165 hp S 1000 XR and the 105 hp F 900 XR. And over 5,000 euros, because the basic price for the new F 900 XR is 11,400 euros.

F 900 R starts with a competitive price

The big sister – now with the new S-1000-RR inline quad as the engine base – costs 16,950 euros. But even those who want to invest significantly less will be served by BMW. The new, well-designed F 900 R enters the race with a competitive price of 8,800 euros.

In focus: the customers of KTM and Co. and the booming middle class motorcycle. You can’t ask too much, at least not in the basic configuration. Of course, the Bavarians have everything ready in their extensive equipment and accessories list to drive the price up. Especially with electronics. While suitcases and touring accessories used to be the price drivers, today it is primarily the assistance systems and connectivity features. The second cruiser approach from Munich, on the other hand, has to be long. It won’t come until 2021.

BMW G 310 R. & BMW G 310 GS

BMW motorcycle

BMW G 310 GS.

The BMW 310 R and BMW G 310 GS represent the entry into the world of BMW motorcycles. Since 2016, beginners have been able to fall back on the two bikes with the 300 engine. The G 310 R is also enjoying greater popularity, at least in Germany, due to its lower price. Both G 310 R and G 310 GS are available in three color variants. Prices start at 5,220 euros for the R; the small GS is available from 6,050 euros.

BMW C 400 GT.

There are also four maxi scooters in the BMW model portfolio in the 2020 model year. The BMW C 650 Sport and BMW C 650 GT have a slightly more powerful engine than the two BMW C 400 X and BMW C 400 GT equipped with a 350 cm³ engine. The price of the two 400 series scooters also differs accordingly from the larger 650 series.

BMW C Evolution / Long Range

BMW motorcycle.

BMW C Evolution.

The large e-glider from BMW has been around since 2014, heavy, powerful and comfortable. A more powerful battery pack now gives the scooter a range of up to 160 kilometers, of course only in cruising mode. Full steam orgies push the range tremendously. The finest controls from the automotive sector make driving very pleasant, the batteries in the center tunnel leave space for a helmet compartment. Accessories from windshields and comfort seats to top cases and navigation systems can further upgrade the scooter.

BMW F 750 GS

BMW Motorrad in the 2020 model year

BMW motorcycle

BMW F 750 GS.

The F 750 GS is the best-selling BMW after the big GS! It’s probably because the 750 offers a lot for the money. In any case, more than what it says, because the same 853 cubic centimeter in-line two-cylinder that drives the 850 series hangs in the steel bridge frame. There, however, with 95 hp instead of 77 hp. Nevertheless, nobody should be fooled: despite the basic price of less than 10,000 euros, the mid-range GS ends up in the five-digit euro range when choosing one or the other equipment package.

BMW F 850 GS / Adventure

BMW Motorrad in the 2020 model year

BMW motorcycle

BMW F 850 GS.

How do you describe the F 850 GS and its adventure sister? Two good bikes, no question about it. They offer a lot, can do a lot, have a lot – maybe that here and there is a little too much. The in-line twin has a more robust V2 character, thunders away. On the other hand, there is also an impressive weight of officially 229 kilograms. It gets even more weighty with the Adventure, just because of the eight liter larger tank. Plus the usual touring tinsel, and a quarter ton pushes it through the landscape in no time. The price can also quickly skyrocket due to additional features that are definitely worthwhile.

BMW F 900 R.

BMW Motorrad in the 2020 model year

BMW

BMW F 900 R..

The BMW F 900 R is one of BMW’s brand new motorcycles for 2020. The engine of the new roadster has 895 cubic centimeters and 105 hp. The exciting question: Why this increase in displacement after only two years? A look at the model range of the competition helps. Among the mid-range travel enduros, the F 850 GS with its 95 hp is exactly in the performance mainstream. If you look at the roadster, however, things look different. The KTM 790 Duke, for example, has exactly 105 hp to offer, the others – from Triumph to Yamaha – add another 10 hp. What would a new F 850 R with 95 hp have cracked? But as it is, with almost 900 cubic meters, a lively design and extensive basic equipment for BMW conditions, as well as the extensive electronics package, things look different.

BMW F 900 XR

BMW Motorrad in the 2020 model year

BMW

BMW F 900 XR.

Crossover? All-rounder? In the past, motorcycles that were supposed to meet both sporting and tourist needs were simply called sports tourers. If you follow this logic, the F 900 XR is a classic sports tourer. As with the GS and R sisters, a steel bridge acts as the frame; the spring travel of the XR, at 170/172 millimeters, is almost exactly between what is known from street motorcycles and what travel enduros generally offer. For beginners, like the F-Roadster, there is a 95 hp version that can be throttled to 48 hp.

BMW S 1000 R.

BMW Motorrad in the 2020 model year

BMW motorcycle

BMW S 1000 R..

Getting on in years – that’s what they say when a motorcycle has been on the market for a long time and no major model maintenance measures were due. If you want to see it that way, the S 1000 R is actually getting on in years. Finally, the Superbike sister was completely redesigned for 2019. On the other hand, even with the old engine, there is still a whopping 165 hp, 205 kilograms in weight and an optional electronic chassis that is rich in experience and can certainly do more than your not very fresh drivers.

BMW S 1000 RR

BMW Motorrad in the 2020 model year

BMW

BMW S 1000 RR.

Everything new in the technical basis of the S-1000 series, the RR? Of course, since last year. Because the model cycles in the super sports environment are still shorter than some schnapps. Nowhere else is 200 HP from one liter a thing of the past as quickly as here. The new S 1000 RR came with a brand new engine and a huge 207 hp! From 1000 cubic centimeters mind you, while the competition from Italy simply increased the displacement in order to crack this mark. That is brave – also because such a strong, light engine has to be sewn on edge, as the difficulties in the start of series production have shown. Then the worm can quickly get into it, as inadequate oil wells and the like prove. But now everything should be fine, Bayern promise.

BWM S 1000 XR

BMW motorcycle.

BMW S 1000 XR.

Dynamic ESA, Pro riding modes, ABS Pro and DTC, Hillstart Control Pro, a perfectly readable 6.5-inch TFT display including connectivity and full LED light – the new XR has everything on board as standard. Get better with more equipment – if that works, the new one has already won. What if someone wonders if the XR also has an engine because you can hardly see it? Yes, don’t worry, also on board as standard. Under the thick 20-liter touring barrel and between the 150-millimeter touring suspension travel sits the mighty light, mighty strong and, at the start of series production in the sports sister S 1000 RR, mighty superbike four-cylinder, whose teething troubles have hopefully finally been resolved. A completely new chassis with a directly hinged strut – and everything that the engine and chassis electronics have to offer – are new.

BMW R nineT (various model variants)

BMW R nineT Scrambler.

Over the past few years, a lot of new versions of the R nineT have gradually come onto the market. The chic retro bike will also be offered in various variations in the 2020 model year. In addition to the standard R nineT, there are also the versions Pure, T / 5, Racer, Urban G / S and Scrambler.

BMW R 1250 GS / Adventure

BMW Motorrad in the 2020 model year

BMW motorcycle.

BMW R 1250 GS.

What else should we say about the BMW R 1250 GS? Comparative test series winner, Alpen Masters winner with regularity, probably the best, most versatile motorcycle in the world – everything is right. And yet it does not adequately describe what “the GS” can do anything. Namely everything, except walking over the water. You will quickly find out who has taken a seat on the comfortable bench, enjoyed the formidable chassis and this incredible boxer in its latest expansion stage. Thanks to variable valve control, the 1250 pushes out of the corners in such a way that it is a pleasure. Just like the astonishing speed, the powerful mid-speed and – you hear and be amazed – meanwhile even the sound of the boxer, which no longer conveys comfort, but accompanies the increased dynamics onomatopoeically. Should you now sing a hymn of praise for the chassis, the grandiose alliance of Telelever and 19-inch front wheel? No, you shouldn’t. It’s best to try it out yourself. Even if you don’t really like BMW. And if this is not enough, the Adventure is an even better model variant.

BMW R 1250 R.

BMW motorcycle.

BMW R 1250 R..

Functionally, the R 1250 R impresses with a wide range of qualities. For example, better driving performance than a 1200 Ducati Monster can offer, also because the much-noticed Shiftcam technology works in the R cylinder heads, of course. In terms of chassis, however, the “R.” Conventional routes, the Telelever, like its sports touring sister RS, has long since become obsolete. What the R 1250 R looks particularly good to face, because instead of the phlegm that has been publicly displayed for decades, the current R is quite dynamic.

BMW R 1250 RS

BMW R 1250 RS.

It wasn’t that long ago that sports tourers sold like sliced bread. No motorcycle shows that those days are over more vividly than the BMW R 1250 RS. Quickly drawn, technically absolutely up to date, with good wind protection and all the luggage options that BMW motorcycles offer – and yet: If you are looking for the RS in the approval charts, you should start reading at the back. It traded at number 90 until September, in August it was still at number 132. At that time there were 178 buyers, of the bare R 1250 R there were around ten times as many at that time. How come Nowhere is this answer more clear than in the BMW model range. And it has two names: GS and XR – anyone who wants to travel and race today cannot ignore these all-rounders.

BMW R 1250 RT

BMW Motorrad in the 2020 model year

BMW motorcycle

BMW R 1250 RT.

“What a ship”, exclaim many who have never driven an RT. Anyone who has ever sat on the navigating bridge knows: This could mean anything from a travel steamer to a speedboat. Why? Because this dream of motorcycles – once in motion – conveys a dynamism and liveliness that one would never have believed it could be. But of course it is primarily the touring competence of Bavaria that the RT oozes out of every joint. Then you sit behind a huge panel and look out through a mighty pane into a world that temporarily flies past as if decoupled (the Telelever plays a big part in this). And wonders how the boxer can playfully cope with this load and how easily the fat (almost 300 kilograms) tilts from one lean angle to the next.

BMW K 1600 GT / GTL

BMW Motorrad in the 2020 model year

BMW motorcycle

BMW K 1600 GT.

Bayern and the six in the row: If this relationship didn’t exist yet, it would have to be invented. In this respect, it is astonishing that less than ten years have passed since BMW presented the K 1600 GT. And with it this incredible engine. He’s cultivated like no other (well, except for the Gold Wing boxer), has pressure like no other, sounds like no other. With its help, the K 1600 GT can do something that you would not expect from such a powerful motorcycle. That is to say, pure dynamism. Also in the model portfolio is the K 1600 GTL, which is an upgraded variant of the GT.

BMW K 1600 B / Grand America

BMW Motorrad in the 2020 model year

BMW motorcycle.

BMW K 1600 B.

What is typical BMW? That a motorcycle is being designed in Munich to meet the demands of the almost limitless American market, which may then also work wonderfully on the highway, but with even more pleasure in the Alps, it whips from bend to bend. Seriously: You won’t forget an idea of how the excavators delivered at the 2018 Alpine Masters. The engine plays a large part in this, but so does the chassis, which was taken over unchanged from the travel giant K 1600 GT. And so it is the suitcases, the silencers and the different seating position that make the difference. It is precisely the last point that makes the excavator’s inherent schizophrenia more than clear. Rear footrests, front running boards – everything for the driver’s feet, but they don’t really feel comfortable anywhere. who’s there “Yes what now?” moans, it would be best to grab the Grand America right away. The determination is already written into the name. So sit back and let yourself drift. And your feet on the boards. Alright guys?
