BMW recall for USA and China
Safety rear light is not permitted

BMW means well with its customers about the safety functions in the rear lights of its motorcycles. Backward legislation does not play a role here, however.

BMW is faced with an unexpected recall in the USA and also in China. For some time now, the Bavarians have been installing taillights in their motorcycles, which start to pulsate during emergency braking in order to make the following traffic even more aware. Actually a welcome security feature, but unfortunately obviously not compatible with legislation in the USA and China. There, brake lights are only allowed to light up, but not pulsate, like the regulation “Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment” executes.

Safety function is programmed out

BMW is now reacting to this fact and simply programming this function out on the motorcycles concerned. In the USA 4,026 motorcycles of the series F 900 R, F 900 XR, S 1000 RR, F 750 GS, F 850 GS, F 850 GS Adventure, R 1250 GS, R 1250 GS Adventure, R 1250 RS, R 1250 R are produced , R nineT, R nineT Pure and R nineT Scrambler as well as S 1000 R are deprived of this safety function. Actually a callback to smile, if the associated loss of safety for motorcyclists wouldn’t make them sad.
