The Boss Hoss tamer
Mistress of 445 hp

A mighty eight-cylinder engine sweetens Susanne’s motorcycle life. She is one of the few women in the world who own a Boss Hoss. And perhaps the only one who drives this monster as playfully as if it were a Honda CB 500.

It’s the sound that makes your blood run cold. That gives you goose bumps and at the same time sends pleasant shivers down your spine. The eight-cylinder hissing is accompanied by nasty bass waves, in between the beat of an irregular firing order mixes when the 6.2-liter raises its voice. Susanne enjoys this sound whenever she can. She drives the Boss Hoss LS 3 with the slightly modified exhaust system for over a year and finds it simply intoxicating to be the mistress of 445 hp and 574 Newton meters.

She has ridden a motorcycle all her life. It is a passion that she shares with her husband Volker, with whom she also successfully runs an insurance agency. The two are pissed off American fans, already had a huge GMC camper, several V8 cars from US production and of course motorcycles. Numerous motorcycles. At some point the vehicle fleet became too big, and the two decided to purge themselves materially. They sold various cars and their Harleys. Then they took a test drive on a Boss Hoss. This culminated in the fact that the material renunciation program was briefly interrupted.

Boss Hoss LS 2 and LS 3 catch up with R 1200 GS

Volker bought a Boss Hoss LS 2 with the six-liter V8 aluminum Chevrolet small block, his wife Susanne chose the 6.2-liter in the Boss Hoss LS 3. The engine alone weighs 250 kilos. She has not regretted the purchase for a minute. “This power, this torque! Just ingenious. ”Of course, you can’t just sit on a Boss Hoss and immediately do gymnastics with it. A little practice and empathy were required so that the couple could safely bring their power to the streets and cycle the 500 kilogram monumental bikes through town and hallway free of disgrace.

The two went on vacation with their thick ships, also drove alpine routes in Slovenia as well as one or the other pass. “Hairpin turns to the right are a bit tedious, everything else goes amazingly well”. A BMW R 1200 GS driver approached them on a winding country road and pityingly wished them a good trip before he gave his all-round weapon the spurs. The two comfortably put on their helmets, started the V8 injectors and calmly followed the winding asphalt strip. After ten minutes of dedicated movement, they caught up with the GS, no joke.

She doesn’t even know she’s a boss hoss

The MOTORRAD editor has arranged to meet Susanne for a short trip with a photo shoot. So far, he was of the opinion that a Boss Hoss was only good for cruising straight ahead and for posing at meetings or parking lots. Susanne impressively proves the opposite. The sporty, slim, 1.78 meter tall woman directs the V8 through the city in a completely playful way. She bends the thick iron around the corners as if it were an entry-level machine.

Heavily impressed, the editor follows into an idyllic valley. Part of Susanne’s home route. The Boss Hoss pulls with a clean line through the curves, already at the apex the gas is applied sensitively. “You hardly ever get all the power on the road, 445 hp is simply too much.” Therefore, a lot of feeling is required when opening the throttle valve. Feeling that the Boss Hoss tamer proves on the whole tour. The editor thought it was not possible to master such a monster bike in such a sovereign manner, but Susanne shows the Boss Hoss Tango in its purest form. Rush through the curves a few more times for the photo? Turn on the road? Apparently no problem. “The machine doesn’t even know that it’s a Boss Hoss”, laughs Susanne. No, this innocent American ship probably really thinks it’s a little two-cylinder Honda.

Boss Hoss gets brakes from the 911

At least that’s how it works when its owner swings into the saddle. Everything looks so light-footed and relaxed, even an emergency braking as a result of a careless driver does not cause serious problems for the driver for a second. Speaking of brakes: On their pass excursions it turned out that the braking system was overwhelmed by the weight of Boss Hoss. At least if you move the American chairs like normal, dynamic motorcycles, the stoppers tend to fade. This means that Susanne and Volker need powerful delay tools. And what do they have in mind? “Porsche brakes.” No joke, calipers and discs from the 911 will soon be handed over to bosses. It won’t stop there, because Susanne would like to change various details so that she can enjoy the machine even more intimately.

Will she swap the 230 rear tire for a 300, the way it rotates in the rear of Volkers bike? She doesn’t know yet. Volker has a “Super Sport” model that has a different frame geometry including a shorter wheelbase and is lower than Susanne’s machine. Is he going slower with it than his wife? “Not really.” Susanne’s brother also drives Boss Hoss enthusiastically. But hardly anyone else who moves the machines that are handmade in the USA knows them. “In Germany there are maybe 200 Boss Hoss”, Volker estimates the number of members of the elite eight-cylinder circle. And enthusiastically reports that there is also an 8.2-liter or even a ten-liter big block. Then the load weighs 650 kilograms. At some point even the most capable driver can no longer fight against the laws of physics.

12 liters on country roads, from 15 liters on motorways

The two of them drove over 5000 kilometers with their boss Hoss this year. On tours all over Europe. Fuel consumption? So twelve liters when surfing country roads and from 15 liters when driving fast on the motorway. They enjoyed every single kilometer of the season. What you can see in the glitter in Susanne’s eyes when she talks about it. The editor’s eyes also shine when he says goodbye to Susanne and Boss Hoss. Susanne notices that, and she knows the sensory experience when the mighty V8 hisses smoothly. Who gives the editor a cheap loan now?
