The rules of British Supersport as part of the British Superbike events are clear: the four-cylinder engines may have a maximum of 600 cc, the three-cylinder 675, and the twins 750 cc. Exception: the Kawa 636 is also permitted. Unfortunately, these rules no longer quite fit the current portfolios of manufacturers. High-speed concepts with 600 cubic meters with four cylinders are practically no longer developed, the 675 triple from Triumph and MV are no longer installed in series production and 750 twins have not been around for a long time. In 2021, new engines can be tested. Triumph is new at the start with a racer based on the Street Triple RS (123 hp from 765 cubic), Later in the year, Ducati also wants the 955 twin from the Panigale V2 go to the start.

Triumph Street Triple RS

the Street Triple RS is being converted into a super sports car by Triumph together with PTR. The rules of the BSP do not allow any further changes to the engine, so no interventions are possible here. Only the exhaust system can be replaced, but it must not exceed 107 decibels. The team sponsored by Dynavolt opts for a system from Spark from Italy. In the chassis, the standard elements from Ohlins give way to matching parts from Bitubo. Since the regulations prohibit the use of carbon panels, Triumph uses the GRP form for the mandatory lining of its naked bike base, which also dresses the limited Daytona 765t. Weight: The supersport racers are allowed to weigh a minimum of 161 kilograms, the Streety weighs around 190 kilograms when ready to drive.

Would you like more variety in the Supersport World Cup??

Voted 171 times

Yes absolutely.

No, the way it is, it’s good.

Conclusion

No surprise. With the entry as an engine supplier for Moto2, it was only a matter of time before Triumph put out feelers in the direction of supersport again. The successes with the 675 Daytona must have been too tempting and with the demise of most of the 600 four-cylinder, affordable and manageable racetrack material must be found somewhere.
