Country road / motorway: (130 points, 2nd place) In this concept comparison, the Dunlop Trailsmart looks like it was made for the GS on country roads. Compared to the Road 4 Trail, minimal compromises have to be made in terms of cornering and straight-line stability, but the tester complains here at a very high level. Because the Dunlop is not only manageable and neutral, but also shines with perfect feedback and a wide limit range, even when the conditions (for example on alpine passes) are not ideal. Only the shimmy tendency when driving straight ahead and in curves disturbs the positive overall impression.
Wet test: (92 points, 2nd place) The Road 4 Trail can outrun the Dunlop Trailsmart a little in the rain due to better traction values, but the Dunlop holds on to the brakes and stands a meter earlier. With good adhesive reserves and a clearly assessable border area, it gives enduro pilots a lot of confidence on wet slopes.
Terrain: (27 points, place) The Dunlop Trailsmart can still play its enduro genes on gravel roads, but even in easy terrain the limit is reached all too quickly.
Conclusion: Judging by the power (and weight) that modern large enduros are now bringing to the road, the Dunlop Trailsmart delivers the appropriate rims. Best choice for everyday GS.
