On Saturday, June 27, 2020, from 12 noon to 1.30 p.m., the Federal Association of Motorcyclists (BVDM eV) in Wermelskirchen protested against the unilateral speed limit for motorcyclists on the K 18. There, the mayor, without the working group Noise to inform, Tempo 50/60 for motorcyclists, while Tempo 100 is allowed for cars.

Higher risk of accidents due to uneven pace

“According to experts, one-sided speed limits for traffic groups lead to an increased risk of accidents. The city’s argument that the speed limit was imposed by motorcyclists on the route due to the increased number of accidents is technically incomprehensible against this background. In the public statements by the mayor and district administrator, however, it becomes clear that it is obviously a matter of reducing noise. The BVDM has been working in the Noise Working Group of the City of Wermelskirchen for years and, like the other members, was surprised at the mayor’s solo effort, who questions the good work of the entire working group.”, it says in a message from the BVDM on Monday, June 22nd, 2020.
