The startup Chill Ride, founded and based in Toulouse, has developed an active thermoregulated vest for motorcyclists that should be suitable for all seasons. The vest is electrically operated and can be worn under conventional protective clothing.

To regulate the climate, the vest uses cooling channels that run through the chest and back area. A liquid consisting of water and some harmless additives circulates in these. Two hoses lead out of the vest and are connected to the control unit mounted on the handlebar. This closes the hydraulic circuit. The control unit, in turn, is connected to two small heat exchangers, which are mounted on the left and right of the fork bars next to the front wheel. The control unit is also connected to the on-board electrical system.

Price from around 1,200 euros

If there is a need for cooling, the coolant is passed through the cooler, and if the request is made to be cozy and warm, the liquid is electrically heated. The system should be able to achieve temperatures of 18 to 38 degrees in the vest. The temperature is selected directly on the control unit. If you forget to disconnect the hose connection from the bike to the vest before getting off, you will be warned by a signal tone when the engine is switched off.

The startup is currently collecting money for series production of the vest via Kickstarter. Production is planned to start at the turn of the year 2021/2022. The projected later price is currently 1,190 euros. Those who promise their financial support can start at 649 euros.
