The final stage of the 2021 Dakar Rally brought the Monster Energy Honda Team overall victory. Kevin Benavides took the triumph after twelve exhausting stages on his over 60 hp CRF 450 Rally. Ricky Brabec accompanied him on the podium in second place. This is a first title for the Argentinian Honda rider and yet another historic result for Honda.

However, the result is still preliminary. In fact, Benavides will only be crowned the winner when he has also completed the liaison stage. A cancellation or time penalties are basically still possible on these last 227 km, albeit unlikely.

The Dakar 2021 was exciting until the final phase. Three drivers shared the chances of victory in a close race. In the end, Kevin Benavides was able to cheer. The Honda driver took the win ahead of his teammate Ricky Brabec, who crossed the finish line just under five minutes behind. Third place went to KTM rider Sam Sunderland, almost 16 minutes behind. The 2021 success is Honda’s first one-two at the Dakar since 1987, when Cyril Neveu won ahead of Edi Orioli.

The 43rd Dakar was again overshadowed by a death. The motorcycle pilot Pierre Cherpin died of his serious injuries. He fell during the seventh stage and sustained serious head injuries.
