The eighties – they were the golden era of motocross. The technology developed just as rapidly as the number of starters in races. The spectacular discipline also boomed in Germany and even produced world stars. On June 23, 2019, the protagonists will start their two-strokes again in Reil on the Moselle. The list of participants promises offroad enthusiasts a special experience.

German motocross legends at the start

Willy Bauer, Rolf Dieffenbach, Roland Diepold, Arno Drechsel, Bernd Eckenbach, Fritz Kobele, Klaus-Bernd Kreutz, Werner Schutz, Bert von Zitzewitz – the excerpt from the driver list reads like the who’s who of German motocross sport of the eighties and nineties. Indeed, with the “Day of Legends”, MSC Reil wants to remember the glory days of the black, red and gold off-road trade. The active motorsport club has invited around 30 pilots from that era. Around half of the sizes at that time will get back into the saddle on the “hot stone” route on – depending on your taste – classic or modern machines.

Also at the start in Reil: MOTORRAD editor and ex-World Cup driver Peter Mayer.

Not only commentator legend Hermann-Josef Deutschbein but also Reinhold Kaltenberg provide a stylish ambience. The Rhinelander will present part of his collection of factory motocross machines (Suzuki RN 400 from Roger DeCoster, Honda RC 500 from Andre Malherbe, Kawasaki SR 250 from Stefan Everts etc.) in the paddock.

The motocross revival will take place on Sunday, June 23rd. The oldies do their demo laps on the former World Championship track from 11 a.m., followed by the driver presentation. Reil is located on the Moselle, about 30 kilometers south of Cochem. More at www.msc-reil.de.
