Let me out!

What you see here, friends, is a 250cc ninja. Supersport in its most life-affirming form. But instead of calling out to us: "Have fun with it", Kawasaki strikes up the city blues.

It is one of the mysteries of the motorcycle world: Hardly a manufacturer climbs into the lonely lowlands of the displacement than he embarrassedly looks for excuses. As if less than 600 cubic meters were a highly immoral offer. The latest example: Kawasaki. Has no inhibitions about getting 200 horsepower on our buttocks, motorcycles that can pulverize us in no time at all, but when trying to position the new 250 ninja, the marketing professionals almost break their tongues. Talking about stuffy cities? and serve us the little super sports car as a city vehicle. You have to take a look at that! With 9000 revolutions to get milk ?? or what?

Everything about this two-cylinder screams for revs. After tricky combinations of curves, free play of forces. Full throttle is the language he understands best. 10000, 12000, 13000 rpm. Shift up, stay tuned! Because of the city ?? It is a crystal clear commitment to racing jumboys. Whoever does not stir the engine speed with the gearshift lever bends in at the exit of a curve, and is the cat on inclines. 33 HP at 11,000 rpm want to be driven together with commitment. And that’s exactly where the real point of this machine lies. While every bigger ninja has to be slowed down permanently, you wring this out to the limit. Which is basically a lot funnier and sometimes even faster.

For example, when the streets curl with bends and nothing counts except handiness. Doesn’t weigh that much, the little one, 169 kilograms with a flooded 17-liter tank. In addition a pair of tires in cutting disc format ?? 110 at the front, 130 at the back: the shortest line comes in handy. Where the wide-tire yogis are difficult to pull out and have their hands full getting their planer on course, the 250 mm cuts straight through. Snot cheeky, completely weightless and without any posturing.

Kawasaki

Pragmatic instruments with an 80s look. Even then they weren‘t pretty.

The chassis does everything easily, soft fork or not. And the brakes with discs in a wave design safely catch the wisp at any time, even without the last bite. You don’t want to trust the tires that deep. IRC Road Winner ?? quite a woody cut. Presumably can withstand three orbits of the earth, but the Japanese tire shies away from steep inclines. Nobody needs it either? in the city!

Which brings us to the crucial question: What is this ninja really made for? And: for whom? In any case, your pattern fits almost all of them? whether running meter or 1.90 plant. Despite the low seating position, the ergonomic relationships between handlebars, saddle and footrests fit perfectly. Long-distance comfort, overview and the opportunity to pose in a sporty manner are also right. What more could you ask for, please??

Kawasaki

While the brake disc makes the wave, the tire makes the wood.

City motorcycle, pah! Just because the speedometer needle doesn’t click over 150 and the sound doesn’t scream far enough to the sky? When are we finally ripe for athletes like this kawa? Two wheels, a small engine, consumption of 3.5 liters, that’s that! Motorcycles that you can entrust to your goldfish if necessary, because it is clear that he will not run his fins off with them.

5000 units were ordered for Europe, most of them going to Spain, where you have a somewhat more relaxed relationship with bonsai bikes. Only a few hundred are expected to come to Germany and will be available at the beginning of May for 4,345 euros at the latest. The 250 R is much cheaper in the USA, where it doesn’t cost $ 3,000, but has a carburettor instead of a double throttle valve-equipped injection and thus does not make Euro 3. Which does not explain the blatant price difference, but at least saves the headache over a possible import . Incidentally, the 250 R celebrated a happy start across the pond in 1986 and became a bestseller. No motorcycle of the Greens sells better with the Americans. Although the customers give hope: 62 percent of the 23,000 buyers were first-time offenders, every third little ninja went to a woman and not a single one to the city cleaning service.
