New fun bike from Italy

Despite the economic difficulties, Moto Morini is putting a brand new fun bike on its wheels and that is not bad news: huge, high-quality, brave.

Driving report: Moto Morini Granferro 1200

In Italy in particular, people told dead often turn out to be pleasantly tough. While some Internet forums have already announced the closure of the Moto Morini plant near Bologna, it does not look at all like closure on site. Despite its financial bottleneck, the company is working flat out on the 2010 model range. Its highlight is the brand new Granferro, and we allow us to refute the rumors of closure M.oto Morini took a short tour into the mountains of the Bolognese hinterland with a pre-production model.

Moto Morini Granferro 1200

Too short, because this 1200 turns on, and not just optically. Even at the start, the snorkeling bass of the two end pots tingles into the pit of the stomach. The forward-leaning, but comfortable seating position arouses sporty expectations. Crouching like a cat, the driver lurks behind the wide handlebars on demanding bends. Only the footpegs look rather high for long-legged people, but they support the sporty feeling. If you like it more convenient, you can easily move it to the front. The extremely short-stroke V-twin-cylinder, around which the Moto Morini model range revolves, develops a whopping 126 hp in the Granferro, and the engineers also developed a remarkable torque of 112 Newton meters. Thanks to two Lamdba probes – one in each cylinder – the 1200 engine is even better attached to the gas and should consume less.

The Granferro scores with fine components such as the radial brake pumps.

The well-coordinated chassis with fully adjustable Marzocchi fork, high-quality Ohlins strut and radial brakes from Brembo go well with the huge drive, it swallows bumps and potholes, and the powerful brakes are easy to measure. The Moto Morini Granferro goes to work with a strong acceleration, developing its torque continuously and harmoniously up to its peak at 7000 rpm. Playful and elegant, it slips through every curve, whether narrow or wide. The lurking sitting position provides permanent control of the front wheel, the anti-hopping clutch effectively prevents the rear wheel from bumping when braking. In the series, the two mufflers get heat-resistant black coatings, the seat gives way to a more elegant model, and the name has not yet been finalized. The Granferro is expected in spring, the price should be around 15,000 euros in view of the high-quality components and the many carbon fiber parts.

A less exclusive, cheaper variant is to follow later. Of course, all of this will only work if the small Italian manufacturer, which the financial crisis caused turbulence, comes to an agreement with a new investor. The Morini employees are optimistic: the negotiations with two interested parties are reportedly promising.

The position light on her narrow carbon feces.

First impression: a nice street fun bike with lots of power and high-quality chassis. Because it was not designed as extreme as some of its competitors, it has what it takes to be a real joker on the country road.
