Worldwide Ducati Scrambler 1100 recall
Fire hazard with the large scrambler

In the USA, Ducati has to recall 1,072 Scrambler 1100 machines to the workshops. The incorrectly routed cable of the exhaust flap can lead to short circuits and fires. Ducati Scramblers in Germany are also affected by this recall.

Jens Kratschmar

December 23, 2020

Because of the loosely laid cable of the exhaust flap on the Ducati 1100 scramblers, built between March 2018 and October 2020, the cable pull can come into contact with the positive pole of the battery. As a result, there is a risk of short circuits and, in the worst case, a fire under the bench.

US authorities are calling back

As always, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is proceeding transparently and is calling on Ducati to recall the Scrambler 1100 models from the construction period between March 2018 and October 2020 to the workshops. This recall also applies to Germany. According to the Ducati homepage, owners of the machines built during the affected period should contact the dealers directly or beforehand via Service tool check the chassis number from Ducati.

Not only the exhaust gets hot with the Duc. The flap control cable can also accidentally heat up when it comes into contact with the positive terminal of the battery.

According to the tool, an additional cable guide will be installed when the recall is made and the cable will also be fixed in the guide. The recall is free of charge for owners.

How do you feel about recall?

It’s annoying, but ultimately I benefit from it as a customer.

I feel insecure and I lose confidence in the technology / the manufacturer.
