If the feedback is good, the Brembos at the front can do that.

The transmission is a bit wobbly and demands clear impulses.

Air-cooled L-Twin and Ducati’s Monster – this marriage lasted a long time. But then it was over. Now the relationship with the Ducati Monster 797 gets a new chance.

Relationships are such a thing. Everyday life and habituation quickly find their way, the initial fascination evaporates, the desire for more space breaks. The same thing happened to the long-lasting association between Ducati’s Monster series and their air-cooled L-twin hearts. From 2001 the two-person constellation became a menage-à-trois, and the first water-cooled engines were allowed to run. And they impressed across the board with more performance. The two-cylinder cooling fins couldn’t keep up with that. The end came in 2013. But at Ducati they somehow remembered that performance is not everything that the Luftikus is now in D.ucati Monster 797 is allowed to take part again.

Motor comes from the Scrambler models

From 803 cubic centimeters, it mobilizes 73 hp at 8,250 rpm. Before the full-throttle PS junkie waves away: Sure, that’s not the world, but it is exactly the world in which power can almost always be used safely in full-throttle mode. And that without electronic aids like traction control. The Ducati Monster 797 doesn’t need that at all during the test drives around Nice – in the pleasantly warm temperatures, the drawn-up Pirelli Diablo Rosso II flu like the devil. The smooth throttle grip begs time and time again for the right hand to be folded down completely. And since the drive accelerates without load changes, you like to join in the game. Whereby squeezing out the engine is almost useless for brisk wagging, since it runs out of air at the top. It’s much more fun to keep it between 3,000 and 6,500 tours than around its peak torque of 69 Nm at 5,750 rpm.

Comfortable seating position on the Ducati Monster 797

The chassis willingly plays along with the rapid hustle and bustle. The non-adjustable Kayaba fork and the spring strut, which can be adjusted in preload and rebound, combine good responsiveness with great stability. People like to take advantage of that, especially since the 193 kilograms (factory specification with a full tank) light Ducati Monster 797 flies in a surprisingly handy way through any wide or narrow curve. Only when the pace only follows the premise of race does the little monster want to be firmly grabbed by the handlebars. Slow or fast, the brakes don’t care. The Brembo M32 monoblocks bite firmly into the two 320 mm discs, monitored by a finely regulating Bosch ABS, and also score with good controllability. And because the seating position with the wide handlebars that lie well in the hand also knows how to combine sport and comfort, the new nude from Ducati ultimately provides many reasons for the happy continuation of the Luftikus plus Monster relationship.
