“But it is red.” says Pecco Bagnaia when he gets into his new leather suit for the first time Ducati Factory colors sees. Shortly before, he and his teammate Jack Miller were able to examine their new workplaces. Miller and Bagnaia have been driving Ducatis in the premier class for three and two years, but for the Pramac customer team. So now directly for Bologna.

New sponsor, new drivers, old motorcycle

In addition to the two new drivers, Ducati has also added a new main sponsor to the team. Lenovo now adorns the fairings of the motorcycles and the clothing of the drivers and team members on a large scale. From a purely technical point of view, the machine from 2020 has remained Development freeze for 2021, the motorcycles may hardly be changed, what the component “driver” even more clearly in the foreground.

The two new drivers Pecco Bagnaia and Jack Miller have known Ducati for the past few years, when they were on the Reds for the Pramac customer team.

The new factory riders from Ducati 2021

The Australian Jack Miller (26) has been driving for the Ducati Pramac customer team since 2017 and finished last season in seventh place overall. He has been in MotoGp since 2015 and can look back on 99 starts, one win, one pole position and ten places on the podium. His new and old team-mate Pecco Bagnaia (24) joined Pramac in 2019 after becoming Moto2 world champion in 2018. Since then he has competed in the premier class 29 times and once achieved second place.

Bagnaias Desmosedici will be wearing the starting number 63 in 2021. The 24-year-old can already look back on a 2018 world title in Moto 2.

Ducati MotoGP 2021

Of course, Ducati plans 2021 with nothing less than the first victory in the drivers ‘championship since 2007. After the constructors’ title in 2020 on the green table – Yamaha had the title withdrawn – Ducati is repositioning itself with new sponsors and new drivers. 2020 was not a good year for Ducati in MotoGP, nor was 2019. The Desmosedici still has the most power, which is proven by the series victories on fast courses, but the red one has a hard time cornering on tight tracks. Also, it seems generally difficult to drive, as evidenced by the rare poles (just one in 2020), few wins (three times in 2020) and just nine podiums last year. Fun fact: Jack Miller was able to achieve as many as the customer team driver with four podium places in 2020 as the former works team with Dovizioso and Petrucci together.

Miller’s Mopped bears the number 43 in the Australian colors. He rides 205 in MotoGP and has so far recorded one victory and ten podium places.

Conclusion

Forza Ducati. New sponsor, new drivers, new luck. May 2021 go better for the Reds, which should be difficult with a de facto old motorcycle. The other teams are not allowed to develop either, but that doesn’t help to become mobile overnight.
