Aprilia RS 660: Not quite enough. Approx. 1.5 – 2 cm of space fit between the floor and the foot with a height of 1.58 m and 76 cm inside leg. The clutch lever isn’t easy to pull, and it’s a bit clunky, which doesn’t fit the rest of this beautiful motorcycle at all.

2/50
Kawasaki Ninja 650: I almost hit the ground with the balls of my feet on both sides. Even more would be possible with the right motorcycle boots.

3/50
Since the sole thickness of motorcycle boots varies greatly, we use Daytona motorcycle sneakers for the seat samples. They have a stiffened sole, but not more bulky than most normal sneakers. Front sole 1 cm; back 2.5 cm.

4/50
I can get down a little better on the Kawasaki Ninja 125, there is enough for the ball of the foot here. In return, the clutch lever of the 125 is more difficult to pull than that of the 650.

5/50
As expected, the Kawasaki Ninja 1000 SX is not only taller, but also wider than the two smaller sisters. In addition, the footrests are positioned in such a way that I cannot stretch my legs down the shortest possible way. The clutch lever needs a lot of power.

6/50
The Kawasaki Z 650 is completely different: It is not necessarily low, but nice and slim in the right places, so that almost everyone has a secure stance with both legs.

EICMA 2021: November stands, further commitments
Leonard Buchet

7/50
The clutch lever of the Kawasaki Z 650 is very easy to operate.

8/50
On the Kawasaki Z 900, too, the clutch lever can be pulled as if freshly lubricated. The ground contact is not quite as good as on the Z 650, but the Z 900 is also nice and narrow around the waist. This will be enough for more experienced drivers.

9/50
I would have expected better ground contact on the Kawasaki W 800, but here, too, the balls of the feet will be enough for those who have their first thousand kilometers and a few maneuvers behind them.

EICMA 2021: November stands, further commitments
Leonard Buchet

10/50
Unfortunately, the clutch lever of the Kawasaki W 800 can only be pulled with a lot of force.

11/50
When I try to get both feet on the ground on the KTM 890 Duke R, they dangle in the air. The clutch lever also requires a lot of force.

EICMA 2021: November stands, further commitments
Leonard Buchet

12/50
One-sided ground contact is possible after slight repositioning, it is not optimal. Experience has shown that the lower KTM seat is useless, as it does not reduce the step length due to the hard side edges. It must have been constructed by a 1.85 meter man …

EICMA 2021: November stands, further commitments
Leonard Buchet

13/50
On the KTM 1290 Super Duke R, too, I would have to move sideways on the bench to reach the floor. The clutch lever is easier to operate than that of the 890.

14/50
This is what it looks like when I try to touch the ground with my feet on both sides of the new KTM 390 Adventure. It is not enough.

15/50
Right foot on the notch, move a little, then the ball of the foot of the supporting leg works. But understandably it is not for everyone in everyday life. The clutch lever goes buttery smooth.

16/50
In between I need a sense of achievement, otherwise the seat test tour will be an ordeal. This is how a 1.90 giant should feel on a Honda Rebel. We’ll get to that later.

17/50
But now first to the Husqvarnas. Even the facelifted Vitpilen 701 doesn’t really fit my 1.58 meter height. The clutch lever needs strength.

18/50
You sit a lot higher on the Husqvarna Svartpilen 701, which is why I have an estimated 4 cm of space between the sole of the shoe and the ground.

EICMA 2021: November stands, further commitments
Leonard Buchet

19/50
Things look a little better on the Husqvarna Vitpilen 401. If this is your dream motorcycle and you still have an inch more than 76 cm inside leg, it could fit. Here, too, the clutch lever needs strength.

EICMA 2021: November stands, further commitments
Leonard Buchet

20/50
The Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 is a bit higher, with one centimeter missing from the ground on each side. And here, too, the clutch lever can unfortunately only be pulled with a lot of flair – as on the three other Pilens (in German: arrows).

21/50
“What do you look so depressed??” – “Well, it’s still not enough for the Supermoto 701 …”

EICMA 2021: November stands, further commitments
Leonard Buchet

22/50
Moving a few centimeters is not enough with the Husqvarna Supermoto. The seat has to hang under the hollow of my knee so that I can find proper support with my standing leg. I’ll save myself the frustration on the Enduro 701 right away.

We come to the BMW F 900 XR – here with a standard seat and chassis. The toes of the shoes do not come into contact with the ground.

EICMA 2021: November stands, further commitments
Leonard Buchet

24/50
It’s one-sided with easy repositioning. Better: we jump on the next F 900 XR, which is also available with a lower seat height ex works.

EICMA 2021: November stands, further commitments
Leonard Buchet

25/50
This BMW F 900 XR is equipped with the lower seat and the lowered chassis.

26/50
This is also the case with this BMW F 900 R – with a low seat and lowered chassis.

EICMA 2021: November stands, further commitments
Leonard Buchet

27/50
With the standard seat and chassis, it doesn’t really fit at 1.58 meters in height. The clutch lever is moderately difficult to operate on all four rehearsals.

No land, uh, ground in sight on the new Ducati Streetfighter V4.

29/50
What a shame, I would have liked it. The clutch lever, however, also requires a lot of strength.

EICMA 2021: November stands, further commitments

30/50
On the new Ducati Panigale V2, with an inner leg length of 76 cm, it is just enough for the toe of the shoe to touch the floor.

EICMA 2021: November stands, further commitments

31/50
In contrast to the brake, I can’t operate the clutch lever with just two fingers, it needs more smack.

Dark Trumm – the Indian Challenger stands in the dark on black ground. And we only have a few seconds to take a photo, so please excuse the sometimes not so optimal exposure.

EICMA 2021: November stands, further commitments
Leonard Buchet

33/50
Indian Challenger again: The balls of the feet hit the ground, but for this big motorcycle that would be too little contact with the ground.

EICMA 2021: November stands, further commitments
Leonard Buchet

34/50
In addition, with the Indian Challenger, at 1.58 meters tall, I can’t even see over the stem. Could be just the right training for those who have always been told by the driving instructor: “Do not look directly in front of the motorcycle!”

We come to the Triumph Street Triple RS. It works, yes. Ideally with somewhat more robust boots and a bit of driving and maneuvering practice.

36/50
The Streety’s clutch lever is easy to operate.

EICMA 2021: November stands, further commitments

37/50
We swing on the Triumph Thruxton RS, from which I would have expected a slightly lower seat height compared to the Streety RS.

EICMA 2021: November stands, further commitments
Leonard Buchet

38/50
The clutch lever of the Triumph Thruxton RS is not particularly easy to operate, but it is also not of the kind that is difficult to operate.

EICMA 2021: November stands, further commitments
Leonard Buchet

39/50
The Triumph Rocket 3 GT is slightly lower than Thruxton and Streety and the clutch lever is pleasantly smooth.

With the new Yamaha Tracer 700 for the 2020 model year, I can only come down with my toes, but that’s more than with the predecessor.

EICMA 2021: November stands, further commitments
Leonard Buchet

41/50
The clutch lever on the Tracer 700 could be a bit easier to use, but the seat is well padded and very comfortable.

Yamaha FYR 1300 AE Ultimate Edition

EICMA 2021: November stands, further commitments
Leonard Buchet

43/50
The seat on the Yamaha FJR 1300 AE Ultimate Edition also offers a lot of comfort, but the seat height and especially the width do not suit motorcyclists who are 1.60 meters tall / short.

44/50
Wow, I had imagined the Harley-Davidson Livewire to be bulkier. Looks really good, the e-motorcycle and the ergonomics seem to suit riders of all sizes well.

EICMA 2021: November stands, further commitments
Leonard Buchet

45/50
With the Harley-Trike the ground contact is barely enough, but the advantage of this vehicle concept is that it cannot tip over – no matter how badly the driver gets on the ground.

EICMA 2021: November stands, further commitments
Leonard Buchet

46/50
The seat height is perfect for a height of around 1.60 meters on the Honda CMX 500 Rebel. Much taller pilots also sit comfortably here.

EICMA 2021: November stands, further commitments
Leonard Buchet

47/50
After the Africa Twin, the Rebel is the best-selling Honda in Germany. It will probably bring it to around 2,000 pieces this year (2019).

EICMA 2021: November stands, further commitments
Leonard Buchet

48/50
The Honda CBR 1000 RR-R Fireblade was one of the most crowded models at EICMA 2019, so the image section is extremely small. Nevertheless, it is easy to see: At 1.58 meters, it is really tight on the sports cannon.

EICMA 2021: November stands, further commitments
Leonard Buchet

49/50
A similar picture emerges on the Moto Morini Super Scrambler.

50/50
And we are not completely surprised that the Suzuki V-Strom 1050 in its chic new DR Big dress is not necessarily designed for small motorcyclists. But if I move a little to the left, that’s enough. In addition, the clutch lever is easy to use. So if you really want to, you could also be happy with the new V-Strom as a smaller motorcyclist.

November stands, Yamaha and MV Agusta agree

In 2020, the world of two-wheelers had to do without the EICMA in Milan due to Corona. For 2021, EICMA is again firmly planned for November. And the first prominent exhibitors have also already been confirmed.

Uli Baumann

EICMA 2021 is scheduled to open its doors from November 23 to 28, 2021. On November 23rd and 24th, only the press and experts are admitted.

The 78th edition of the two-wheeler fair was originally planned for November 9-14, but was postponed by two weeks as part of the harmonization of trade fair dates in Milan. The organizers are already proclaiming numerous registrations from important industry giants.

Big manufacturers agree

EICMA, also known as the Milan Salon, had reported records in 2019. According to the organizers, almost 800,000 visitors flocked to the fair on the two trade visitor and four public days. 1,187 brands exhibited their products in eight halls. Almost two thirds of them came from abroad; a total of manufacturers from 43 countries were represented at EICMA 2019. Also for 2020, the fair was apparently fully booked in February.

After various motorcycle manufacturers have already been on the lookout for new presentation formats, EICMA announces that Honda, as a major international player, will definitely be at the start of the 2021 edition. The Japanese have officially confirmed their participation. The Indian motorcycle manufacturer Royal Enfield will also be at the start with its innovations. The Italian manufacturer Benelli and Yamaha have already announced that they will exhibit in Milan in November. With a larger stand to give the visitors more space and thus distance to each other. MV Agusta, who want to present their innovations again in Mailland in 2021, will also be exhibiting.

Timur Sardarov, CEO of MV Agusta: ” For MV Agusta, EICMA is a regular event not to be missed, a showcase of great prestige where our motorcycles made in Italy, built with avant-garde technology and engineering, show their style and strength, but also great craftsmanship and know-how -how that has been acquired in 75 years of pure passion. Over the years we have presented our most important new models at EICMA and this year we will not fail to surprise and convince fans and professionals.”

Online event instead of a classic trade fair – that’s the right way to go?

Voted 627 times

Yes, it’s timely.

No, I want to keep the classic mass.

Conclusion

The EICMA is one of the world’s most important motorcycle trade fairs. The organizers are confident that the 78th edition can increase in autumn 2021. The fans would like it.
