Why you should not save in bicycle helmets

Only every seventh cyclist in Germany carries a helmet, though scientific studies prove that bicycle helmets enormously reduce the risk of fatal head injuries. This has revealed a study by the Institute of Legal Medicine of the University of Munich. The result could redeem the discussion about a helmet duty in Germany.
The five best helmets
The Stiftung Warentest has tested 20 bicycle helmets. Five of them made a "good" quality judgment: the Casco Speedster-TC Plus (2.0) took the first place.

Fourth place and five go to the sporty KED Crom (2.5) and the CityHelm Nutcase Street Gen3 (2.5).
Only five of 20 helmets received the grade "good". These are not many. At the test 2012 there were nine from 16.
The loser in the test
The worst has cut off one of the most expensive models: the POC Crane (3.6) received only the overall grade "sufficient". With a price of an average of 120 euros, he is the second pumped helmet in the test. Especially in the category "accident protection", the helmet has an insufficient shock absorption.
Test criteria have been changed
In previous tests, significantly more helmets cut off well. The reason for this are clearly stricter test requirements. For good reason: younger research results show that the customary tests have to consider the protection against surcharges on the forehead and temporal parts too little.
