Motorcyclists are not the main users on French motorways either. Those who can, prefer to take the country road. Nonetheless, around six percent of motorway users drive on the motorway at least once a year by motorcycle. This clientele is now being taken care of by the APRR (Autoroutes Paris-Rhin-Rhône) motorway operator together with its subsidiary AREA.

Emergency needs available

In cooperation with the French accessories chain Dafy, APRR is setting up biker corners at numerous service stations. Everything that is needed by motorcyclists in an emergency is kept here. The offer ranges from chain sprays to visor cleaners, tire sealants, lashing straps and rain suits. Dafy does not charge a motorway surcharge, the prices should correspond to the offers in the other 180 branches spread across the country.

Motorcyclists will also find free lockers at the locations to stow clothing and luggage or to lock a helmet away during the break. At selected locations, bikers can even get a free coffee, or they can warm up and dry their things in a heated lounge.

Three biker corners are currently in operation along the French A6 and A43 motorways. Six more spaces will open on the A6, A31, A39, A40 and A43 motorways by November. Another two are to follow soon on the A31. Depending on the season, there should also be references to the biker resting places on the flexible motorway information boards.

Conclusion

French motorway operators are discovering their hearts for bikers, or just a new group of customers. It doesn’t matter, the offer of the biker corners sounds good and should be very popular. German motorway service stations are welcome to take an example here.
