Wellington-based FTN Motion’s first round of funding is over. 500,000 NZ dollars, the equivalent of 260,000 euros, were collected. That should be enough for a pair of shoes.

City runabout with electric drive

Less is more is the motto of the New Zealand startup FTN Motion. The three makers behind FTN wanted to get away from smog and traffic jams, so they built their own electric motorcycle and raised $ 500,000 from investors in the first round of financing.

The three founders of the FTN startup in Wellington collected 500,000 New Zealand dollars, the equivalent of 260,000 euros, in the first round of financing: The prototype, designed and built entirely in the local bicycle cellar, is now to go into series production as a Streetdog.

50s with a range of 100 km

The FTN team consists of Luke, Kendall and Saskia. Saskai takes care of marketing and strategy, while Luke and Kendall handle engineering, design and manufacturing. Their first creation is based on a double loop frame made of tubular steel that provides space for a 30 liter storage compartment and a battery for a range of over 100 kilometers. The wheel hub motor delivers 2.7 hp and can accelerate the FTN to 50 km / h. The delicate machine weighs only 62 kilograms and can already be ordered in advance. Price: the equivalent of 4,700 euros, one word for a 50cc moped. Shipping to or street legal in Germany were hardly in the specifications of the three FTN makers.

Which electric concept on two wheels is the right one for you?

If so, then only a powerful electric motorcycle.

I can imagine an electric scooter for commuting and city traffic.

A small, agile electric moped is definitely fun.

None at all.

Conclusion

260,000 euros, a good 30,000 euros over the target. That is the result of the first financing round from FTN Motion. Now the three founders can have the first models certified and put a small series into production.
