Numbers, data, facts about gasoline
Which fuel is the most efficient?

We explain how crude oil is turned into gasoline, what influences gasoline prices and further facts on the topics of chemistry, gas stations, fuel consumption and alternative drives. And: which fuel is the most efficient?

Oil stocks in the 21st century.

Since the beginning of the 21st century, more and more synthetic energy sources have been created in addition to crude oil production. This means that conventional oil reserves will be available for fuel production for a few years longer.

From crude oil to gasoline

To produce fuel, the crude oil has to be heated to 400 degrees in a tube furnace. This is followed by atmospheric distillation: different products separate from one another due to different boiling temperatures. Gases, raw fuels, raw heating oils and lubricants with different degrees of fluidity are obtained. Gasoline consists of light components and already evaporates at low temperatures. After further fractionation, the desulphurized gasoline either goes into the catalytic reformer or into the isomerization. The end product is regular, super or super plus fuel.

Gas stations in Germany.

The number of petrol stations in Germany continues to decline. The number of stations has been falling continuously since 1999. The main reasons for the decline are rising fuel and rental prices. The petrol stations most frequently represented in Germany are independent providers. Aral is in second place.

Fuel consumption

Fuel consumption in Germany.

A total of 56.7 million tons of fuel were used in Germany in 2016. Diesel makes up the lion’s share of this.

Petrol prices during the day

Petrol prices during the day.

The fuel price depends on the time of day. From night to early morning it shows the highest deviation from the regular price with up to six cents. From 6 a.m. onwards, it sinks continuously with the exception of a short upward swivel at noon. Around 6:00 p.m. the price drops to the lowest level of this statistic. Note: Refueling is the most expensive at night.

Taxes on the price of petrol

Taxes on the price of petrol.

For a liter of gasoline you pay an average of 1.38 euros. The price per liter is dominated by a 63 percent tax. The remaining 37 percent go to the oil industry.

Power density

Power density of the various fuels.

The statistics shown show the respective power density of different fuels. It can be seen that z. B. Hydrogen has a high gravimetric value, but has a low volumetric fraction. Hydrogen is therefore considered to be a poor energy store. The modern lithium-ion batteries also have a very low power density compared to petroleum fuels such as gasoline. Diesel achieves the highest energy density.

The 10 cities with the most charging stations in Germany

There are a total of 10,878 charging stations for electric vehicles across Germany.

There are a total of 10,878 charging stations for electric vehicles across Germany. Most of them are in Hamburg. There are currently 774 of these charging points here. Berlin is promoting the new drive with at least 628 charging stations. In both the south and west of the country, charging stations are fortunately often represented. Their number will steadily increase, because often with the opening of a new supermarket or the private purchase of electric vehicles, additional “charging stations” are created.

alternative drives

alternative drives.

According to statistics, there have been more than 700,000 alternatively powered cars in Germany since 2016. Most of them run on petroleum fuels, of which the share of liquefied gas cars is the highest. The proportion of electric cars is still very small. But it will grow.
