Manageable effort, convincing effect: with Wirth fork springs there is a finer response. In addition, the front section no longer dips as much when braking hard and has more reserves. Including oil: around 100 euros.

Most CBF drivers get along well with the chassis. Stability gourmets order backlash-free steering head and swing arm bearings from Emil Schwarz, as well as a new lower strut mount.

The first CBF 1000 vintage in particular suffered from vibration damage to trim parts. But even with later copies it is worthwhile to decouple something with foam rubber strips.

The conversion to particularly bite-resistant brake pads does not work miracles, but in direct comparison with the original pads, the Carbone Lorraine pads (set: approx. 72 euros) stop a little earlier.

Garage tuning for the woolly milk pig that lays eggs

Honda CBF 1000 – bestseller in the premiere year 2006, under “also ran” in the current registration chart. Honda’s egg-laying wool milk sow is out as a new machine. But the inventory is huge and tips for improvement are in demand.

They still exist, and in 2006 there were a particularly large number of them: motorcyclists who do not define themselves by the exterior of their two-wheeled vehicle or by its paper form. So people who just want to ride a motorcycle. Comfortable, reliable and also quite quick when the going gets tough. Exactly 4812 of them bought the all-rounder equipped with the modified Fireblade engine in the CBF 1000 premiere year. That was enough behind the BMW R 1200 GS for second place in the registration charts. By 2011, the first edition, known internally as SC 58, had 13,411 approvals in Germany. The CBF 1000 F (SC 64) as the successor model for a smooth transition, but unfortunately not for a recovery in the steadily falling sales figures. Aluminum instead of steel frames, a new fairing, 107 instead of 98 hp and a four-in-one instead of the (nicer!) Four-in-two exhaust system attracted only around 2,600 buyers by the end of 2013.

The 2013 placement in the German charts: 58. That adds up to a good 16,000 four-cylinder hums, most of which should still be in use. When it comes to reliability and durability, the Honda CBF 1000 cannot be fooled so quickly. In the MOTORRAD endurance test (issue 18/2007), the astonishingly handy five-hundredweight bike impressively demonstrated over a problem-free 50,000 kilometers that Honda can deliver absolutely reliable endurance runners for relatively little money. A very good one, but not a perfect one, because even if most of the CBF 1000 owners should not attach greater importance to major renovations, a lot can still be achieved with fairly manageable effort: more comfort and more sportiness – the famous Honda CBF 1000 absolutely deserves it.

The Honda CBF 1000 motto has always been: “Buying at the price” – the main stand was often left behind. But it can be retrofitted as an original part for around 180 euros; Non-original parts are hardly cheaper. The Scottoiler promises permanent, automatic chain maintenance, which is popular with frequent drivers. The regular price of EUR 139.90 is available from Louis as a “Special Edition”, but this year for a fair EUR 99.95.

What works quite well with a tight-fitting leather suit and narrow shoulders can be quite limited for XXL types in somewhat bulky textile packaging: the consideration in the mirrors. The picture is right again with the mirror extensions from SW-Motech. The set with the CNC-milled aluminum parts, which bring the mirrors a little further outwards and upwards, costs 49.95 euros.

The Michi double light module ensures that both eyes of the Honda CBF 1000 shine at the same time. The universal kit, which costs around 50 euros, fits almost all motorcycles with separate headlights. The luminosity is adjustable.

Although the standard Honda windshield can be adjusted in height, the windshield is not optimal. Especially tall people complain of turbulence. The Variotouringscreen VT from MRA provides a remedy. The € 119.90 windscreen with spoiler attachment can be easily installed in around ten minutes, is a perfect fit and can be adjusted manually in seven steps. Even in the lowest spoiler position, it protects better and quieter than the original part of the Honda CBF 1000.

The Michelin Pilot Road was usually used as the first tire for the Honda CBF 1000. A good tire with which high mileage can be achieved and which behaves quite neutrally. But tire development continued vigorously, and with more modern rubbers, the CBF is even more fun.

The first choice could be the Pirelli Angel GT, which finished the MOTORRAD tire test (issue 12/2013) as the test winner and scores particularly in the wet with very good adhesive reserves. He shows his sporting talents on country roads and impresses with great cornering stability and good grip. With its outstanding handiness, the Continental Road Attack 2 is also particularly impressive on the country road, but it should definitely be dry because the Conti is not a revelation in wet conditions. The Bridgestone T 30, on the other hand, does not really care whether it is dry or damp. The successor to the somewhat hapless BT 023 scores with its handiness and feedback under all conditions. The wet grip is right.
