Explained in a mandatory disclosure to the US Securities and Exchange Commission Harley-Davidson End motorcycle manufacturing in India as part of Rewire’s strategy. The Indian activities are to be completed within the next 12 months. With the end of production, 70 jobs will be lost in India.

The Indian newspaper “The Hindu” had already reported at the end of August that Harley-Davidson was only able to sell around 2,500 motorcycles of the locally manufactured Street 500 and Street 750 models in India in the past fiscal year. Too little for the Americans.

The street models are made in India.

Accordingly, they are already looking for a new tenant for the industrial building in Bawal in Haryana, where Harley models are still being assembled for the Indian market. Scouts are currently mainly contacting automotive suppliers. The assembly of the street models is to move to the USA. Whether these will then be exported again is uncertain because of the numerous customs disputes.

Harley-Davidson itself does not see any relevant growth for the Indian market. Only recently had the motorcycle manufacturer made it clear that it would only focus on growth markets in the future. In addition to North America and Europe, this also includes parts of the Asia-Pacific economic area.
