Scrambler conversion from HB-Custom

The German customizer Holger Breuer, also known as HB-Custom, has put a chic scrambler based on the Honda NX 650 Dominator on the wheels.

The Honda NX 650 Dominator was very popular at the time. The engine and the everyday suitability of the bike in particular attracted fans. Other, smaller manufacturers also seem to be impressed by the basic virtues of the Dominator. For example, the French manufacturer Mash uses the Dominator’s drive in a revised form in its new Dirt Track 650. Customizers also like to use the NX 650 as a basic motorcycle, as in the case of the Honda NX 650 Dominator presented here "No. 35" from HB-Custom, which presents itself as a chic scrambler after the conversion work.

Made in Germany

Behind HB-Custom is the German conversion specialist Holger Breuer, who has already put numerous custom bikes on the wheels. In the "No. 35" Breuer relies on a 1996 Honda NX 650 Dominator. The custom Honda’s single-cylinder engine with 644 cm³ still delivers 44 hp. The pistons and valves of the engine have been replaced with new components for reasons of durability. Breuer also decided to change the carburetor and to install the Mikuni TM40 flat slide carburetor instead of the original. When it comes to the exhaust system, Breuer relies on a two-in-one solution. In order to bring the electronics up to date, a so-called Joost Electronics B-Box was installed, with which it can be controlled.

The base motorcycle is barely recognizable when HB-Custom is converted.

From a purely visual point of view, not much of the original Domi can be seen. The chassis and the suspension elements could be taken over from the basic bike in a slightly modified form. The original wheels were replaced by 17-inch models, on which the TKC8 from Continental was mounted. For the brakes, the German tuner from Husum relies on components from Brembo and Magura. For the tank, Breuer used the Yamaha XT 500. To install the chic brown seat, a subframe had to be installed. The handles are optically matching in the same brown color. Otherwise, the Honda conversion shines in white, gold, green and black colors. A round LED headlight from Koso rounds off the classic scrambler look. The conversion is said to have taken about 90 days.

Conclusion

Reliable engine, chic retro look and definitely a one-off: the converted Honda Dominator from HB-Custom is a real eye-catcher and was created with a lot of attention to detail. Like the key figure "35" the model name suggests that the Dominator-Scrambler is not the first successful conversion of the German customizer.
