With the Nuda 900 and the very sporty R version, Husqvarna is trying for the first time in the road segment. The German-Italian manufacturer grabbed the little twin from BMW and converted it to suit their taste. Goal: sporty fun bike. Result: PS like it.

Ozzy Osbourne? Wait a minute – Husqvarna is already part of the BMW Group, right? And yet: Saw the guitars, whip the drums, the bass pushes hard and bat killer Osbourne is screaming about his existence as a werewolf. Heavy rock instead of beer tent polka. The Husqvarna people from Varese see the difference between themselves and the parent company in Munich. In this respect, the choice of music at the press presentation of the Nuda 900 pointed the way to what was to come.
This difference between well-groomed aggression and a healthy world is best manifested in the engine. While the parallel twin in the BMW F 800 models does its duty in a traditional way, the revised Husky version is heading for the Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame.

Only in the “R” does a fine Ohlins damper work.

No wonder: 100 cubic meters more displacement, a cylinder head with larger valves, modified valve timing and more air to breathe, and a new crankshaft with a 45 degree crank pin offset give the 105 PS core of the Nuda character traits of a real werewolf. It not only growls lewdly outrageously, it turns the entire drive train into a real blower. The R model puts it in the limelight. With the fully adjustable Sachs fork, the additional height-adjustable Ohlins damper at the rear, the Brembo blocks at the front, a flat Supermoto seat, carbon lids and the tank painted in Husqvarna Racing Red, the Nuda 900 R is namely Again the difference to the difference, is to the standard Nuda like Metallica to Brian Adams – and is therefore predestined to be a favorite with horsepower.

Sound thanks to the crankshaft! The crank pins, offset by 45 degrees, simulate a V2.

The driving behavior speaks for itself. Anyone who resolutely pulls out the gas will pull a wheelie out of the pit lane of the small circuit in Mores, Sardinia, without using the clutch. In the upcoming rounds, the enthusiasm does not let up. The twin hangs brilliantly on the gas, converts every turn of the right handle directly into thrust and pleases with an aggressive sound. The short translation of the R is a delight. Then the Husky happily turns upwards with full torque and then briskly speeds away at around 5000 rpm. The vibrations are surprisingly subtle even up to the limiter at a little over 9000 rpm and do not disturb in the slightest. At three or four places on this mini-course you shift up a few gears and you can look forward to the good transmission, which can also be operated easily without a clutch.

The brembos in the standard and R versions of the Husqvara Nuda 900 bite differently.

To destroy your strength, cracking brembos bite into the brake discs. Thank goodness this super sporty brake with radial pump can be dosed very well, because the dry 175 kilo motorcycle would otherwise be permanently at risk of stoppage. With two more clicks on the fork pressure stage, this could also be counteracted and the handling enjoyed as a result. Sorry that we’re raving about it again, but the Nuda R was also convincing on this point. With the tubular space frame from the BMW F 800 GS shortened accordingly, the R euphorically picks up every steering impulse. She cannot deny her ancestry from the husky supermoto. She is not a bit nervous in long corners, even when hanging-off, not even when doing gymnastics on the huge handlebars. The only drawback of the R is its freedom from lean angles. Although it is a bit higher than the standard Nuda, the footpegs scratch the asphalt quite early.

And the standard? Well, it’s closer to everyday life. Their non-adjustable dampers are designed to be much softer. This is too soft for aggressive vaporizing, especially since your Brembo stoppers work much more gently, but still decelerate quite jaggedly. The wavy seat is more comfortable for pillion rides, but a bit narrow for longer trips. At a higher speed, even slight impulses to the longitudinal axis such as gusts of wind bring the Nuda unintentionally to swing. And the standard Nuda is only available in black. At around 9,900 euros it costs around 1,650 euros less than the R. For this price, however, it also has this rocking engine, which demonstrates the fundamental difference between Husqvarna and BMW so wonderfully cast in metal. The debut in the street segment is a success – Welcome to the Jungle!  

PS judgment

An extremely agile motorcycle, a grumpy, aggressive twin with 105 hp and the finest manners and the right brake – that’s it. The R concept will find supporters among both supermoto and naked fans. If you like it more subdued, you should try the standard Nuda. Definitely take a sample!
