Black and white was yesterday – or 2018

EICMA

For the 2020 model year, Vitpilen and Svartpilen are coming again as 401 and 701. New colors and detail changes should give a boost: black and white were yesterday.

For the third year in a row, the extraordinary Vitpilen and Svartpilen models will be at the EICMA in Milan again in 2019. So in addition to the annual Enduro and Supermoto models, Husqvarna is sticking to its exotic products. Although the originally Swedish brand now exists as a subsidiary of KTM AG, Duke and Vit- and Svartpilen could hardly be more different – even if they share the frame construction and the 390 or 690 engine.

At first glance, however, it seems as if the Vit and Svartpilen from Husky exist in a completely different genre than the Duke: futuristic design, idiosyncratic shapes, at the same time classic features and the seating position similar to a super sports car: the two arrows are not that easy put in one drawer.

Updates and color changes for 401

The A2-compatible models Vitpilen 401 and Svartpilen 401 will both receive only a small technical update for the 2020 model year: The rear frame has been lengthened to offer a four centimeter longer, more comfortable pillion seat.

They also get new graphics: The originally white, sportier twin has now taken off its vest and will come with more black and a silver main color, bronze details and only a very last bit of neon yellow on the cooler for the next season. The Svartpilen 401, on the other hand, detaches itself from its dark cape and now comes a little friendlier with the main color dark gray, silver-colored details and also: almost without neon yellow. So both of them detach themselves a little from the futuristic space look and reflect on noble, more subdued colors, according to the motto: There is not always only black or white.

The new Svartpilen 401 looks friendlier and less radical thanks to gray instead of black.

Well-known colors on the 701

The more powerful pair of twins with 692 cubic engines will get new spoked wheels and CNC-milled footrests for the 2020 model year, but that should have been due to technical changes.

The “new” Svartpilen 701 in a copper-colored designer dress looks very familiar to us: In summer 2019, Husqvarna unveiled exactly this motorcycle as a special “Style” model at the driving presentation; The Vitpilen 701 is also not a huge surprise in terms of color, especially since the combination of blue and white has already been placed on the “Aero” study. Here, too, the designers are now moving away from the rigid, eponymous grids of the two models and daring to use more aggressive, noble and atmospheric colors.

The new color is similar to the design of the Vitpilen study “Aero” and immediately catches the eye.

Dates and details Vitpilen and Svartpilen 401 and 701

The small 401 comes with the well-known 373 cc single cylinder and 44 hp at 9,000 rpm and 37 Nm at 7,000 rpm. The 835 mm seat height, WP-APEX chassis, ABS system and ByBre brake system remain unchanged.

The 701 comes with new 17-inch spoked wheels, with the more rebellious Svartpilen rolling up to 18 inches at the front. Just like the 690 Duke, the 692 cc single cylinder drives the 701 and shows off with 75 hp at 8,500 rpm and 72 Nm at 6,750 rpm. The Brembo brake system, APTC slipper clutch, WP chassis and 830/835 mm seat height remain true to the 2019 models.

Prices of the newly colored models are not yet known.
