With races in Assen, the Sachsenring, the Lausitzring and Hockenheim, the IDM 2020 finally starts. August starts the season of the International German Motorcycle Championship in Assen.

As the organizer and promoter of the IDM, Motor Presse Stuttgart worked feverishly on a changed calendar for the 2020 IDM season. “We could have a championship with at least three weekends”, confirmed series manager Normann Broy. Now the IDM racing calendar is set. The following race weekends are set:

  • August 14-16: IDM Assen with grade and cup classes
  • September 7th – 8th: IDM Sachsenring with grade and cup classes
  • September 11th – 12th: IDM Lausitzring with class and cup classes
  • September 25-27: IDM Hockenheim with grade and cup classes

IDM live streams planned

Since the lockdown to contain the corona pandemic, the Motor Presse Stuttgart event team has developed safety and hygiene concepts for implementing the IDM season under these new conditions. After more than three and a half months of involuntary compulsory break, the IDM unfortunately has to take place in front of empty stands. Thanks to the support of the sponsors, live streams on the Internet and a special print supplement in the magazines PS and MOTORRAD are planned for the many fans.

With the second run at the Sachsenring a surprise happened. Many IDM Superbike 1000 riders, above all the two-time champion Ilya Mikhalchik, had very much regretted the cancellation of the run at the ADAC Sachsenring Classic in May. Now there is a separate IDM event with all classes, which will be held on September 7th and 8th, which is an unusual Monday and Tuesday. But it was the only way to still be able to integrate the popular MotoGP track into the IDM calendar 2020.

IDM final at the Hockenheimring

The Sachsenring and the Lausitzring form the 2020 IDM double pack. From Saxony, the route continues directly to the Brandenburg race track, around 150 kilometers away, where the third IDM run will be held on the following weekend (September 11th and 12th). As usual, the final will take place on the last weekend in September (September 25th to 27th) at the Hockenheimring.

After many event cancellations and juggling countless new calendar designs, Broy and his team have achieved a small masterpiece. “In between I had almost given up hope. But we didn’t let up and, thanks to the support of the racetrack operators, we can now present a small but nice IDM calendar”.
