Title for Reiterberger in front of the World Cup
It is finished. The IDM Superbike 1000 presented itself impressively during the Superbike World Championship at the Lausitzring. Markus Reiterberger won his third title in Germany’s highest motorcycle road racing series and performed brilliantly as a wildcard driver in the world championship. The IDM set a sporty exclamation point with lots of action, and 31,400 fans watched.

Markus Reiterberger traveled to Lausitz as the IDM Superbike 1000 leader, where his toughest competitor Danny de Boer failed. The VanZon Remeha BMW team-mate had a nerve pinched in his back and couldn’t drive, as it quickly turned out in free practice. The Dutchman started his journey home. Two wins for Markus Reiterberger, all of them “Reiti” call, were then enough to win the title early. The corks popped in the BMW team. Bayern’s championship victory came as no surprise. With the exception of one race at the start of the season in the rain on the Nurburgring, he has won all races by a superior margin. The 23-year-old fought for his reputation to return to the Superbike World Championship, which he bitterly left at the beginning of the year after a back injury and little support from the team.
He proved that he would be in good hands in the World Cup in his wildcard appearances with places 13 and 9, which he completed with his proven IDM team. How important the IDM title was to him? “Very important. I didn’t go all the way in the second run, saved the material and reduced the gas a little. I wanted at any cost
prevent anything from breaking.”
Events rolled over behind Reiterberger. Stefan Kerschbaumer (Yamaha), Jan Buhn (BMW), Jan Halbich (Honda) and Dominic Vincon (BMW) proved to be a fighting quartet in the first run. In the end, Kerschbaumer celebrated a second place for the first time this season and interrupted BMW’s dominance on the podium, which was also on the stage.

After the second run, drivers from three brands were on the podium for the first time this year. Reiti was framed by Florian Alt (Yamaha) and Jan Halbich (Honda). It was a close thing. Luca Grunwald (Suzuki) had also registered his claims.
Privateer Marc Neumann caused a surprise. He has never been as fast as in Lausitz on the BMW S1000 RR. Neumann came in seventh.
The only lady in the field, Lucy Glockner, was unlucky. After the Kawasaki rider got stuck behind Florian Alt in seventh place in the first run, she crashed on the first lap of the second run. The aggressive Saxon had already overtaken five competitors from 10th place on the grid before the first corner when she jumped out of gear. At the exact moment when the clutch pulled, the gear re-engaged. Hunchback was thrown off the Kawasaki in a high arc. The race was stopped immediately. At the restart, the 27-year-old was no longer there, but in the medical center, where no serious injuries were found.
In the IDM Superbike 1000 overall ranking, Florian Alt has improved by two places and is currently the runner-up behind the new champion Markus Reiterberger. Jan Buhn improved to third place.
From September 1st to 3rd, 2017, Oschersleben will be back to business. There the next IDM round will take place, then again with all IDM classes and brand cups.
Maximilian Kappler from the IDM Supersport 300 competed at the Lausitzring as a Wilcard driver in the World Championship. The Saxon finished tenth on the Freudenberg Yamaha. Thomas Gradinger, the IDM Supersport 600 leader from Austria, also took part in the World Championship run in his class and came in ninth.
