Jonas Folger burns off a fireworks display on a Yamaha at the Sachsenring. From the first practice session, the 27-year-old superbike rider dominates the second IDM event. He won the first round of the IDM Superbike 1000 from pole position with a large lead of 15.4 seconds over Florian Alt with the BMW and the Swiss Dominik Schmitter. In the second race, too, the Bonovo Action by MGM Racing driver pulled away from the field. Folger crosses the finish line in a BMW almost 17 seconds ahead of second Ilya Mikhalchik. “The Sachsenring suits me and I knew that we would be strong here right from the start”, says Folger after his second IDM double success.

100 points for Jonas Folger

Mikhalchik, the follower hunter with the best points, is doing a bit of damage limitation after finishing fifth in the first race on the previously unknown track. The defending champion continues to occupy second place in the championship. But the Ukrainian is now 33 points short of follower, who starts the second half of the season with a maximum of 100 points. The third IDM round will start right at the weekend at the Lausitzring.

Max Enderlein uses home advantage

In addition to the two Superbike races, the decisions in the IDM Supersport / Superstock 600 are the best advertising for motorcycle racing. In the IDM Supersport 600, the defending champion Max Enderlein celebrates two hard-fought race victories against the Croatian Martin Vugrinec. With that, Enderlein got the maximum number of points on his home track and took the top spot in the overall standings. The Saxon overtakes the 18-year-old Dutchman Sander Kroeze, who cannot put himself in the limelight at the Sachsenring.

World championship driver Jan-Ole Jahnig successful

In the IDM Superstock 600, the Belgian Tom Kohnen defends his top position from Paul Frode with two inconspicuous races. The Saxon Honda driver celebrates his first IDM victory in his home race. Jan-Ole Jahnig also celebrates a victory at his 600 premiere. The ex-IDM champion in the Supersport 300 also collects valuable points as the best pursuer behind race winner Frode and is fourth in the championship after just one weekend.

Youngster from Australia in the lead

For the first time since Jack Miller, an Australian is leading in an IDM overall standings: Harry Khouri uses the races at the Sachsenring to take the lead in the IDM Supersport 300. The Australian wins the second race against the fastest in training, Luca de Vleeschauwer. In the first run, the 16-year-old Australian finished second behind Marvin Siebdrath. Siebdrath, however, has bad luck in the second race. When fighting for position in the chasing group, he is involved in a collision and only comes in 14th.

Northern Talent Cup (NTC) started

The Northern Talent Cup (NTC) celebrates its premiere at the Sachsenring as part of the IDM. Freddie Heinrich wins the start of the junior series from MotoGP marketer Dorna, KTM and the ADAC ahead of the Romanian Jacopo Hosciuc and the Belgian Luciano Lorenz. 15-year-old Heinrich drives for PrustelGP. The World Cup team is at home at the Sachsenring.

Brilliant IDM comeback at the Sachsenring

The races of the first IDM appearance at the Sachsenring after seven years were the best advertisement for motorcycling. “I am very happy with the very good weekend”, says IDM series manager Normann Broy. “We have to thank the ADAC Sachsen, the AMC Sachsenring and the track operator with Ruben Zeltner at the helm, who made this unforgettable event possible for us.”

Because of the measures to contain the corona pandemic, no spectators were allowed at the Sachsenring either. The IDM fans were able to follow the races in the free IDM live stream. The races of the two following events at the Lausitzring and the Hockenheimring will also be broadcast via live stream.

IDM 2020 dates:
