Outwardly, the Corsaro has stayed the same. There are new components in the engine, and a new control unit should ensure lower consumption.

Sledge hammer

The English term for sledgehammer has been known since Peter Gabriel’s hit in 1986. Like the latter, the Moto Morini Corsaro struck 19 years later and electrified fans of sporty two-cylinder engines. 2010 ended due to bankruptcy. Now it’s back. How well does the Moto Morini Corsaro 1200 Veloce hammers today?

Wherever a sledgehammer hits, nothing remains as it was. That doesn’t necessarily have to be bad, because either space is created for something new or an existing gap is filled with power. The latter succeeded M.oto Morini 2005 with the Moto Morini Corsaro. House designer Franco Lambertini, who had designed the legendary 3½ decades earlier, was able to draw on the full when developing it. He took this chance. At 66 mm, the very short-stroke and easy-turning 1.2-liter V-Twin with an idiosyncratic 87-degree cylinder angle not only impressed the Italophile fraction.

The price is tough

Not only at first, but also at second and third glance, the current Moto Morini Corsaro 1200 Veloce of the six-year-old sister – apart from the color scheme – looks like it has been cut from the double headlights. Is it a question of freshly frosted – in this case Pirelli Diablo Rosso II – old stock? But when asked by importer Bayer, they say that all current models are freshly produced in a new plant in Trivolzio near Milan and have technical improvements and new components in the engine. There is no more precise information. A new control unit would reduce consumption. Nevertheless, consumption can only be pushed below the six-liter mark with the most hesitant use of the throttle. In normal operation it is around 6.5 liters. The old models weren’t any more thirsty.

But at the latest when you leave the tank, that’s forgotten. The mighty V2 unleashes a thunderstorm of sound that you cannot avoid. And although it is already eleven years old, with its 140 hp and 123 Nm it plays in the same league as a Ducati Monster 1200. Already just above idling speed, the boisterous starts, between 3500 and 9000 rpm is always over 100 Nm. The switch box works precisely, albeit with long switch paths. And for the slipper clutch it takes whole guys. They don’t mind the lack of assistance systems either. Because neither ABS nor traction control are on board, let alone automatic gearshifts or riding modes. Here, too, the Moto Morini Corsaro 1200 Veloce is completely the same. Not when it comes to the price. In 2010 the price tag was 10,995 euros, this year it is 18,500 euros. That at least ensures exclusivity.
