Intermot 2008: The most important news of the motorcycle fair

With a comprehensive framework program in the outdoor area and 120,000 square meters of hall area, this year’s motorcycle and scooter measure Intermot offers Intermot (8. until 12. October 2008) A lot of space for new, especially in the scooter area.

From the trade fair took place for the second time in Cologne, the motorcycle manufacturers hope for a decent thrust for the market, but the sales has been breaking for years and further.
If 135 885 motorcycles and scooters were admitted until August this year, the 98 units were less than in the same period of the previous year and thus a small minus of 1.93 percent. However, the motorcycles are considered alone, reveals a minus of 7 236 units or 12.03 percent. By contrast, the scooters boom unbroken. From January to August 2008 they were able to increase by 3,261 units compared to the same period of the previous year and thus almost 22 percent.
The reasons are found quickly: the driver’s license for a scooter – if necessary – is not as expensive as the for a motorcycle. Also, the cost of purchasing a scooter and its maintenance are below those of the big bikes and small cars. Therefore, many urban dwellers take the choice instead of a second car on a scooter. Manufacturers can therefore no longer as points with the Big bikes and sports motorcycles as years ago, and the scooters lay on the intermot to presence. There is something of everything, in each class one to two manufacturers present at least a novelty.
Roller: Innovations on two wheels
Also, there are also newcomers in the industry between the well-known producers such as Yamaha and Piaggio, for example E-Max with the same named electric scooter. Although at just under 3,000 euros are already available on prices, the scooter designed in Italian style is also available in the versions 90s and 110s on the fair. Both models have motors with up to 4 kW / 5 hp power, which enable a maximum speed of 45 km / h and reach from 45 to 60 kilometers in the model 90 s and around 80 kilometers at 110 s. For an extraporation strength and acceleration, a booster should provide up to 50 percent more power at the push of a button. The electric motor is fed over a long-lasting silicon battery, which according to the manufacturer on the socket within approximately four hours at 90 s or in up to eight hours at the 110 s completely recharged. The current electricity prices should cost the energy for 100 kilometers around 50 cents.
Convenient space offers the electric scooter two persons. In addition, he should convince through a good handling because of his deep priority. Details, such as the clear cockpit with digital and analog battery level and speed display as well as a single-arm swingarm for the rear wheel guide complete the overall picture of the E-max. Since the maximum speed was throttled to 45 km / h and the two-wheeler thus corresponds to the 50 CCM class of a roller with internal combustion engine, the reasonably priced insurance plate is sufficient instead of the taxable license plate. The E-Max models are distributed by SAP System Auto Parts from Weiden in Germany.
A number greater than the E-Max falls from Vectrix’s maxi electric scooter. With him, a powerful electric motor ensures a range of up to 100 kilometers and a maximum speed of 100 km / h. For this purpose, with a solar filling station, a novel mobility solution is shown, where the vehicle can recall energy regardless of the conventional power grid.
Quite conventionally equipped with internal combustion engine, but therefore not uninteresting, is the Grobroller Xciting 500 IR of the Taiwanese manufacturer Kymco. The presented for the first time its luxury cootter with ABS. The large scooter should combine the dynamics of a motorcycle with the comfort of a top-class roller. The liquid-cooled engine with 498 CCM displacement and four-valve technology has an electronic fuel injection, which should ensure powerful acceleration and at the same time save sprit. Among other things, the standard mobile phone charging station with 12 volt socket, a multifunction lock with master key for ignition, petrol lid and seatbank release, adjustable handbrake lever, a spacious storage compartment, the adjustable windshield and standard flap straps for the passenger. The price is nearly 6 100 euros. In addition, the XCITING 500 I is also available without ABS for 5 795 euros and a 300 CCM version for less than 4,500 euros.
Of the few motorcycle manufacturers who also offer scooters, Yamaha introduces the Neos revised for the model year 2009. The scooter has a new single-cylinder four-stroke engine with 50 CCM displacement. The engine is fluid cooled and has a gasoline injection, which should provide a lot of power at medium speeds as well as low consumption and emission values.
