That was the fair in Cologne
INTERMOT took place in Cologne from October 2nd to 7th. 220,000 visitors came to the Koelnmesse halls – that’s a record! In addition, the audience was younger than ever.

220,000 visitors in six days – that is impressive. They flocked to Cologne from over 100 countries and found out about the range of products from 1,041 manufacturers from 40 countries. 180,000 square meters were available, the outdoor program took place on a total of 68,000 square meters. According to the organizer, the proportion of trade visitors was 24, with 35 percent from abroad.
High growth in young visitors
Especially gratifying: the significant increase in young visitors up to 21 years of age by 50 percent! Nobody complains about a lack of offspring anymore. No wonder that there was a lot going on at Kawasaki around the brand new Ninja 125 and Z 125 and at Yamaha the YZF-R125

The Indian FTR 1200 celebrated its world premiere at INTERMOT. This is very unusual for an American motorcycle and we are therefore particularly pleased.
The Indian FTR 1200 also celebrated its world premiere at INTERMOT and was very popular with the public. Grant Bester, Vice President of Polaris Industries, which also includes Indian: “For the first time in the history of Indian Motorcycle we presented a world premiere outside of the United States. We deliberately chose INTERMOT in Cologne for this launch – the event is very international and Germany is an extremely important market for Indian. The response we have received from international buyers and journalists for our new models has been overwhelming. “
The Customized Hall was extremely well stocked and well attended: In addition to additional renovation appearances by the major manufacturers, well-known renovators, numerous newcomers and accessory providers were in Cologne for the first time. There were live renovation shows, barber and tattoo studios were represented. The highlight, however, was the AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building, which takes place every two years in Cologne and was able to announce a new record participation with 107 bikes.
Exhibitors, manufacturers, models
On the approximately 100,000 square meters of exhibition space, BMW, Harley Davidson, Honda, Ducati, Kawasaki, KTM, Kymco, Aprilia, Moto Guzzi and Vespa, as well as Suzuki, Triumph and Yamaha presented their current model ranges.
BMW
The new BMW R 1250 GS celebrated its premiere at INTERMOT.
Brands such as Indian, Royal Enfield and Horex were also there with their own presentations. The Benelli brand could also be seen again in Cologne. Companies such as Energica and Zero set impulses for motorcycles with electric drives and Emco or Kumpan for e-scooters.
Of course, all the big names from the clothing sector in Cologne were also there. Dainese, who also brought their subsidiary AGV with them, celebrated a comeback.
MOTORCYCLE booth and program
the MOTORCYCLE stand was in hall 9, booth A41. Of course we had our popular cult cups in our luggage again, which were filled with filling at the coffee counter. MOTORRAD heroes got the cup (value: 4.50 euros) for free, the filling cost one euro.

We have a cup of coffee with a filling. Just normal coffee. With normal milk and 0815 sugar.
Holger Aue gave autograph sessions several times a day and had a lot of merchandise in her luggage – anthologies, breakfast boards, calendars, etc. On the neighboring stage, colleagues from MOTORRAD received and presented mopeds and guests several times a day.
We hired at the stand itself Endurance test motorcycle off – with the engine completely dismantled, of course. The Ducati Multistrada 950 has 50,000 test kilometers under its belt. Using an exemplary product test, we also conveyed how our accessory tests work. The colleagues from the MOTORRAD action team were also represented at the stand with their new 2019 program .
the 1000PS crew offered their current merchandising collection at the MOTORRAD stand. In addition, there was the opportunity to take souvenir photos with the 1000PS colleagues. For a worthy and “leiwande” Possibility to pose was taken care of. 1000PS also started daily live streams from the fair.

Customizing and networking
In the area of customizing, customizers, parts specialists, accessory suppliers and motorcycle manufacturers presented their worth seeing conversions. The right framework was provided by suppliers of scene-appropriate accessories as well as a real workshop, in which they were honed, filed, painted and built in front of an audience.

The networking of vehicles, especially motorcycles and cars, should reduce the risk of accidents by around a third.
Another highlight was the AMD Championship of Custom Bike Building, which takes place in Cologne every two years. This is where the ‘who’s who’ of the renovators presents themselves to an international jury with their spectacular renovations. World champions are crowned here.
The “Connected Motorcycle World” themed area brought together all the innovations and visions relating to communication, networking and digitization.
The other supporting program at INTERMOT included various test drive options, 1/8 mile races on Saturday and Freestyle MX, safety demonstrations and various stunt and acrobatic shows on all days of the fair.
Arrival by motorcycle
Motorcycles, two-wheelers of other types and Segways could be parked in the bus station, Hall 2 West and Halls 2/3 South, the parking fee was 5.00 euros per motorcycle. The parking lot was guarded until one hour after the fair closed.
