MTB circuit integrated in NSU Quickly

In general, the NSU Quickly has slimmed down, now weighs only 31 instead of 41 kilograms. The biggest challenge, however, was to integrate the gearshift of the MTB into the Quickly, which was solved with an intermediate shaft. The standard drive of the Quickly is on the left. The secondary transmission takes place via pinions on the original sprocket, which sits on a rotated holder. This drives a shaft, at the end of which is the MTB switching group with three pinions on the right side of the vehicle. The system even has a clamping mechanism. The power is transferred backwards to the seven gears via an MTB chain. They are switched via shifters on the handlebars as normal. So this thing is not lacking in corridors.

Two stages in the Quickly transmission times 21 bicycle gears result in 42 transmission options. Can the engine do that? “It still has its 1.4 HP at 5000 rpm,” grins Oehlerking. “But the box doesn’t really come out of the quark in the last aisles.” Top speed? Dirk purses his lips and says: “It depends on the driver’s weight and his slipperiness. You can do a lap. “You can’t be told twice.

Damn it is hard! No cushion on the skateboard. Flat wood only. The feet rest on bicycle pedals that are screwed to original Quickly cranks. Two or three kicks are enough, and the small, 49 cubic two-stroke engine crows and spits blue haze from the silencer. It’s still original. However, the manifold and the connecting pipe have been changed. It consists of one-inch bends and pipes that plumbers commonly use for plumbing pipes. Pull the clutch, go into gear. The first of the two transmission gears. The two-stroke mixture is housed in a 0.5-liter drinking bottle. Gas on. The thing starts to move slowly. In terms of figures, fifth gear is currently possible. So operate the derailleur and shift down. The engine crows immediately. Back to the middle sprocket with the MTB derailleur. Now things are moving cautiously, the box picks up speed.

"The machine is for the paddock"

Inclined position? As much as you dare. Steering behavior? Bike-like. Brakes? Both disc brakes come from the MTB and are controlled by a cable. The front stopper reacts cautiously, the rear one is activated by stepping back on the pedal and lets the load slide around on command.

Dirk Oehlerking would like to have 2800 euros for this. Who should you buy this? The box will probably not get an insurance number, too much has been changed for that. Dirk grins and says: “The machine is intended for the paddock, to look at or to fool around with. To stay young forever. “
