The strongest single cylinder forms the heart of the Kramer-HKR-Evo2, everything else comes from our own production. This creates an incredibly handy and extremely mobile racer in small series.

Uur scales don’t lie! Not with heavy piles of iron, and certainly not with race bikes, where every gram counts. In any case, an unbelievable 130.7 kilos are on the display when we roll on the Kramer-HKR-Evo2 – complete with water, oil and a full fuel barrel! We are impressed and have not driven a meter with it. However, the bike has an excellent reputation, because Lukas Wimmer is very successful at the top of the European Supermono Cup.

Light, handy and extremely mobile

KTM 690 Duke R, which also offers a lot more thrust across the entire middle speed range. “The engine has not yet been coordinated with the airbox and the test exhaust from Akrapovic,” dismisses builder Markus Kramer. At the moment an exhaust is being developed with Akrapovic, after which it’s the perfect set-up. In addition, the Evo2 will soon get a drilled-out single with 790 cubic meters, which will then produce well over 85 hp.

Everything developed in-house

The test track in Anneau du Rhin is still wet when we arrive, so we can take a closer look at the Kramer-HKR-Evo2 and talk to Markus Kramer (www.kraemer-motorcycles.com) about the bike. Everything came about after he left KTM as a development engineer and the first HKR, which he built for his own racing passion from a 690 and many RC8 genes. There isn’t much left of it today. “This motorcycle came about with all of ours
experience on white paper, ”explains the 33-year-old Kramer. Frame, cladding, swing arm, footrests – everything developed in-house. The spring elements come from WP, the engine is supplied by KTM. He takes care of the rest with his own company and his own suppliers.

In addition to the frame of the Kramer-HKR-Evo2, the self-supporting rear frame, which is also the tank, stands out. This plastic construction, which Kramer thought up himself, weighs three kilograms. “Because the Single is so tall, we had to go somewhere else with the tank for a flat and properly balanced racing motorcycle because we had to build a correspondingly larger airbox for the necessary power.” The quality of the component is convincing, and that also applies to the Detailed solutions such as the screw-on upholstery and the integrated crash bars on the rear of the tank frame.

Dry track – the gas is on the right!

The sun is finally out in Alsace and I can go out onto the slopes. You immediately notice how narrow the Kramer-HKR-Evo2 is. The ergonomics fit, even if the notches are a bit high for a body length of 183 centimeters. But I feel the benefit after just a few laps of getting used to it, because this light racing flea can be drawn on crazy lines and sloped really deeply without even touching the flared toes.

The 180 slick rear tire grips perfectly, and that’s how I really let the Kramer HKR Evo2 fly. The proportion of full throttle is correspondingly high with the moderate single, and in order to be able to compete with the four-cylinder bikes on the track, you have to take a lot of speed through the curve. That is the great fun on this motorcycle and at the same time the challenge for the driver, because every mistake when braking, turning, the chosen line and when exiting a curve is punished with extra tenths. No mega-power conceals one’s own inability here.

On the other hand, after getting used to the curve, you can dance around the 1000s like a young dog with the light racer and this playful handling – wonderful! The single takes the gas cleanly. Even if you feel that he is a little lacking in juice, he still happily turns the top. Even as a 790 it should be considerably less stressful to move than the Armada of the 1000s. On the Alsatian slope they have to brake too hard at the slight right bend in the straight to the paddock, while the Kramer-HKR-Evo2 flies with full throttle towards the braking point of the next narrow right and sniffs a few colleagues.

A crazy feeling – that’s how motorcycling should be. Like riding a bike, just easy, only much better. Markus would like to make this feeling accessible to more people, which is why he would like to produce 25 pieces of the Kramer-HKR-Evo2. Base price: 14,990 euros. Exclusive OZ rims or Akrapovic carbon system, they go extra. He also wants to offer the Evo2 as a kit, then everyone can hang in their own engine. This is how Markus Kramer understands his company slogan “Construct your Identity”.
