Even if it does not yet have all the fairing parts, the new Super Adventure seems to be visually shrinking.

As with the smaller 790 Adventure, the large one will now also bunker part of the fuel supply far below in order to lower the center of gravity.

First the side pockets are filled, then the central main tank. When emptying, the sequence is exactly the opposite.

The tank lid can be opened without a key – the 1290 probably comes with a keyless system.

Large enduro revealed in patent drawings

KTM is working on a new edition of the big travel enduro 1290 Super Adventure. First we got a Erlkonig, now there are patent drawings.

KTM is updating all of its 1290 models. We have already caught the new KTM 1290 Super Duke GT as Erlkonig. Now images from a US patent application provide new food.

Giant exhaust for Euro 5

Even with the KTM 1290 Super Adventure, the Euro 5 regulations require quite a lot of effort in the exhaust system. The 2021 Super Adventure carries a really huge muffler. KTM does without a front silencer and instead leads the two exhaust manifolds into an arm-thick pipe before the exhaust gases are allowed to let their energy dissipate in the stainless steel pot. Even in the Euro 5 trim, the V2 should produce around 160 hp.

The Erlkonig caught also reveals a new refueling strategy. As with the smaller 790 Adventure, the large one will now also bunker part of the fuel supply far below in order to lower the center of gravity. Visually, the 1290 is less noticeable than the chubby 790. The patent images provide further insights, especially into the new three-part tank structure.

KTM

Visually shrunk

The rear frame has been redesigned. Obviously it is now being welded together from square aluminum profiles and aluminum castings. That certainly saves a few grams of weight, but also creates a significantly sportier note. The new two-part bench then also fits, the current machine has one-part seating.

In general, the new Super Adventure looks much sportier and more dynamic. The radiator cowling, which looks like a super sports car, the slim, waisted fairing with the two characteristic air inlets from the front and the very slim rear end make the mighty enduro look smaller.

New assistants and active chassis

On the other hand, the equipment is upgraded. The -KTM also has a radar eye in the front. This sensor can be used to control a distance cruise control, a collision warning system and even an emergency brake assistant. The Austrians have been developing such systems in collaboration with Bosch for some time. Electronically controlled spring elements can also be seen. The active chassis comes of course from WP Suspension and is state-of-the-art.

The slightly modified TFT color display is also being refined. It looks a bit larger and better integrated into the cladding.
